🌍 Climate Diary - July 5, 2026 Today I'm trying to finish my PhD chapter on climate change and loss of culture. In my view, this is one of the most understated and under-explored areas in international law.

The US has long carved itself out of international law. Now it is carving itself out from climate governance by declaring a “national emergency” to keep burning fossil fuels. open.substack.com/pub/daveinde...

The movement to end the Trans-Atlantic slave trade has much to teach in the context of climate change and the loss of a habitable planet. Some thoughts on how we can find that same moral clarity in defending our only home: substack.com/home/post/p-...

I briefed States and NGOs at a UN Human Rights Council side event yesterday on climate tipping points. The collapse of the AMOC or the Amazon is more than an environmental crisis. It is the also the erasure of the right to self-determination. You cannot govern a state that is no longer habitable.

We had a great side event at the UN Human Rights Council on climate tipping points and human rights. Bringing scientists and human rights experts can lead to powerful policy insights on how we protect human dignity on a changing planet.

Trump’s "Board of Peace" is more than just (bad) Middle East policy. It is an architectural shift in global governance A permanent seat costs $1 billion. It turns global survival into a pay-to-play SaaS model It might become a blueprint for climate, too daveindercomar.substack.com/p/the-board-...

The new “Board of Peace” created by President Trump has chilling consequences for the international order more generally, including for climate change. It is a preview of how powerful States intend to govern the planet in the post-Holocene. daveindercomar.substack.com/p/the-board-...

20th-century policy treated Earth as a static resource. The new curriculum must treat Earth as a dynamic, fragile system. Maintaining planetary boundaries must be the primary constitutional obligation of every Post-Holocene State. daveindercomar.substack.com/p/pioneers-o...

Ending global warming, and returning to a habitable planet, will require a political vision and political framework of deep-seated transformation. Abolitionism and decolonization are essential precedents. daveindercomar.substack.com/p/the-vision...

Awakened Earth must be treated as a political actor, with a “will” of its own. This “will” is simple—Awakened Earth seeks a new homeostatic state. The more emissions that humans produce, the greater the abyss between present conditions and any future resting state open.substack.com/pub/daveinde...

Is it time to treat Earth as a political actor, with a "will"? I think so. Emissions have disrupted the Holocene, and the Earth is seeking a new homeostasis. Governments must organize to a confront a new actor that will challenge them, perhaps even topple them open.substack.com/pub/daveinde...
