Costs the Earth. My cartoon in today's @theageaustralia.bsky.social and @sydmorningherald.bsky.social
A political cartoon by Megan Herbert showing three vignette drawings with captions below each one. First is a drawing of ceramic piggy bank labelled "Cost of attending COP talks." Second is a large sack full of money labelled "Cost of doing what COP recommends". Third is the Earth labelled, "The cost of doing neither."

@davidshoebridge.bsky.social is not only appealing to the True Believers in Labor (a label obviously excluding those in caucus and the machine), but calling to the middle ground that are falling towards PHON, not chasing after them like the ALP, but talking to their remaining better angels.

And the killers are still wandering around killing, and will keep on killing, as long as they are wandering about. Preventative justice is required. Remediation and retribution are irrelevant. But there aren't too many options in how to stop them.

Volkswagen's turn from making cars to tanks is the perfect butter to guns story. Having squeezed the people so dry the people can't buy discretionary goods, the elites use warmongering to funnel taxes directly and corruptly into their pockets, and the people have no say in it.

Australian major parties (ALP/LNP/PHON) agree the best way to lower inflation is to lower domestic demand. And what they can do to lower domestic demand is to send all our money overseas as corporate profits and military spending.

Banks, major beneficiary of ever more unaffordable housing, are major discretionary providers of party funds - a party with a policy of affordable housing would be cutting its funding and boosting that of its competition. Only useful donation reform, banning corporate donations, might stop this.

"parallels between (the Ukraine) war and a prospective conflict over Taiwan are ominous" the article highlights. Yes: US arms/supports proxy a stone's throw away from peer competitor that gets scared, proxy destroyed, regional US allies sucked dry. Ominous parallels. Oh for 1815 Vienna wisdom.

If you are a belligerent country, have given up all your sovereignty to the most belligerent rapacious country in the history of the planet, then it's clear you are immoral enough to profit from war and misery. The only surprise is we haven't let the US have all the shares, all the profits.

At the UN: A megalomanic muses about destroying a country. Albo? Gets a sycophantic selfie with him. A genocidal maniac talks about more genocide. Most countries, anti-genocide, walk out. Albo? Our representative stays. He knows he's on the wrong side of history. He surely knows. Yet he persists.

Part of the problem is that the CSO (Community Service Obligations) undere the Act technically relates only to letters, the provision of services (government/banking access, especially to remote areas, or with accessibility issues who have problems with using phones/net) is missing.

The transfer of taxpayer's money from butter to guns (including militarization of the police) is an easy choice for cashed-up elites expecting the rest of the economy to tank, as they can guarantee growth in a sector and refuse justification of the wealth transfer because it's a "security issue"

"Never stood on the sidelines" you say Albo That may be correct - because we have participated all my life in so many unjust wars with lies as pretexts, with troops or SigInt: Gulf of Tonkin for Vietnam. WMD for Iraq. Weapons to genocidal Israel. SigInt to bomb Iranian schoolgirls.

If MPs say the phrase "net zero" should scrapped, then the "carbon offset" lurk, that allows companies and countries to pollute and claim they are net carbon neutral by not cutting down a forest should also be disallowed.

Reframing humane political views as terrorism is not just to squash those who oppose genocide, but also those supporting a viable biosphere, viable wealth distribution, and anything else that might protect the general citizenry against the (often foreign) predatory elites our politicians serve now.

Why would America want it's vassal on the Security Council? I'm guessing for much the same reason Sir Humphrey wanted the UK in the EU - "Now that we're on the inside, we can make a complete pig's breakfast of the whole thing". We obviously hate international law, how better to screw it?

Dumb time for the European elite to be talking up a siege of Kaliningrad and conflict when they've got no fuel and with winter coming on - but great time, with no fuel and winter coming on, to have an excuse for martial law or similar restrictions on their own restive citizens.

The problem is Albo's (and the Labor Party's, and the LNP, and PHONs) real support base for all of them is the same: the plutocrats, the American warmongers, and the Zionists (whether through money or blackmail). Normal Australians have no influence with any of them. They all need to go.

Paul Keating says Aukus locking Australia into a US war against China, which it would ‘certainly lose’
Former prime minister says US would ‘scuttle itself back to San Diego’, leaving Australia to deal with retribution from China * Follow our Australia news live blog for latest updates * Get our new political email, free app or daily news podcast Aukus critic Paul Keating has said the submarine deal is locking Australia in to any future US conflict with China – “a war America would certainly lose” – and making Australia a target for retribution. The former prime minister seized on comments reported out of Washington this week from Republican congressman Michael McCaul – a China hawk and co-chair of the Congressional Friends of Australia caucus – who said “Australia is a target” for enemies of the US already. However, McCaul argued that greater integration with the US military would better protect Australia rather than leaving it more vulnerable. Continue reading...
