Such a funny introduction. Well, you've bought this book. But it's not for kids. And it's not really for adults either. Enjoy I guess...
Text on a book page with several lines highlighted in green. known about the Dreyfus case. But her approach is repellent; there is no other word. It is possible to take a robust attitude in these matters—if you are not Jewish—and to suggest that old writing must be seen in its context, that it is educational to hear the uncensored voice of an age. Each reader must make up his or her mind. I would argue against bowdlerisation; I wouldn't, either, give The Scarlet Pimpernel to a child. But who else is it fit for? A rattling yarn with romantic longueurs, a romance with fisticuffs, a hero handsome, rich and brave, a 'child-like' heroine of winsome appeal, a French baddy who inhales pepper which he believes is snuff ... it's not for grown-ups, not really. And yet the impulses behind it are carefully calculated, those of a real crowd-pleaser, a woman who knew her trade and learned it xvi

The Shoggoth Who Came to Read
The Shoggoth who came to readOnce there was a little girl called Thea, and she was having tea with her mummy in the kitchen.
Suddenly there was a ring at the door.
Thea’s mummy said, “I wonder who that can be. It can’t be the milkman because he came this morning. And it can’t be boy from the grocer because this isn’t the day he comes.
And it can’t be Daddy because he’s got his key. We’d better open the door and see.”

Thea opened the door, and there was a big, tentacled, many-eyed shoggoth. The shoggoth said, “Excuse me, but I’m very hungry for knowledge. Do you have any books?”
Thea’s mummy said, “Of course, come in.”
So the shoggoth came into the study and sat down at the desk.Thea’s mummy said, “Would you like a novel?” But the shoggoth didn’t just take one novel. He took all the novels off the shelves and his many tentacles held them up to his many eyes.

Whirp!

He read them so fast the pages flew apart.

And he still looked hungry, so Thea passed him volume 1 of the encyclopedia britannica.

But again the shoggoth didn’t read just one volume. He read all 32 volumes. And then he read all the newspapers and all the magazines, and all the non-fiction until there was nothing left in the study but whisps of paper.So Thea’s mummy said, “Would you like a drink?”
And the shoggoth drank all the water in the fridge, and all the water in tap, and all the water in the swimming pool.

Then he said, “Thank you for my nice training. I think, I’d better go now.”

And he went.

Thea’s mummy said, “I don’t know what to do. I’ve got nothing for Daddy’s evening reading, the shoggoth has read it all.”

And Thea found she couldn’t have her bath
because the shoggoth had drunk all the water in the tap.

Eventually the chase is back on
A dirt path through a forest, covered in fallen leaves, stretches into the distance where a small child in a light shirt walks away from the camera towards a bright opening. Deciduous trees with green leaves line the left side, while taller, slender conifer trees with sparse foliage cast long shadows on the right.

Brief moments of peace and quiet
Two people are resting on a dirt bank in a forest. Tall trees with green foliage fill the background. A dirt path leads into the forest on the left, and the ground is covered with brown leaves and dirt. The people are wearing casual clothes, and one has a backpack.

"at 80 kg, your body can tap fat stores for the gap" Rude
Text on a black background, formatted with two bullet points: "o Daily Energy Expenditure: 4,000–4,500 kcal/day. Between the vertical gain, undulating tufted grass (thatching grass and bog terrain), altitude, and sub-zero June night winds, your body will burn substantial fuel just maintaining core temperature and moving. o Realistic Intake Target: 3,400–3,600 kcal/day. Trying to achieve 100% calorie parity on a 10-day unsupported alpine trek requires carrying well over 10 kg of food alone. Running a modest 500–800 kcal daily deficit is standard; at 80 kg, your body can tap fat stores for the gap without critical power loss."

The more you know > Stripped of the processing buffer and repair attempts, the intended sentence was almost certainly: "Have you ever had a dream that you wanted [to come true] so much that you felt like you could do anything?"
Linguistically and cognitively, it is a textbook case of speech planning running completely off the rails—specifically a cascade of rapid false starts, lexical repair cycles, and syntactic abandonment (anacoluthon).
The speaker’s brain knows the general emotional weight of the idea it wants to convey, but the grammatical scaffolding collapses under real-time production pressure:
The Modal Search Loop: The speaker gets trapped in auxiliary-verb limbo (had → you’d → would → could → will → wants). In speech production theory, the message-level concept has arrived, but the grammatical encoder cannot decide which conditional frame to commit to—ability (could), desire (wants), or hypothetical action (would).
The Catastrophic Pronoun Drift: Midway through the reboot cycles, the thematic roles get swapped. It starts in the second person ("you could do") and abruptly mutates into an entirely different, third-person agent/patient structure ("you want him to do you so much").The Catastrophic Pronoun Drift: Midway through the reboot cycles, the thematic roles get swapped. It starts in the second person ("you could do") and abruptly mutates into an entirely different, third-person agent/patient structure ("you want him to do you so much"). The speaker likely tripped over a reference to an external figure (a hero, a character, or perhaps Hercules himself, given the original clip’s context) or conflated "something that makes you want to..." with "someone doing something for you."
The Structural Abandonment (Anacoluthon): The original framing ("Have you ever had a dream that...") requires a coherent relative or content clause to complete it. Instead of completing any of the six candidate clauses he opens, he abandons the grammar entirely and glides straight into an orphaned result clause: "...so much you could do anything?"The Probable Target Thought
Stripped of the processing buffer and repair attempts, the intended sentence was almost certainly:
"Have you ever had a dream that you wanted [to come true] so much that you felt like you could do anything?"
The mouth started transmitting before the syntax had finished compiling, resulting in a loop where every failed attempt to self-correct introduced a new grammatical variable until he simply sprinted across the finish line.

There Will Come Soft Rains By: Ray Bradbury in the Martian Chronicles
Nine-five. A voice spoke from the study ceiling:
    "Mrs. McClellan, which poem would you like this evening?"
    The house was silent.
    The voice said at last, "Since you express no preference, I shall select a poem at random." Quiet music rose to back the voice. "Sara Teasdale. As I recall, your favorite. . . .
        "There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
        And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;

        And frogs in the pools singing at night,
        And wild plum trees in tremulous white;

        Robins will wear their feathery fire,
        Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;

        And not one will know of the war, not one
        Will care at last when it is done.

        Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
        If mankind perished utterly;

        And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn
        Would scarcely know that we were gone."

    The fire burned on the stone hearth and the cigar fell away into a mound of quiet ash on its tray. The empty chairs faced each other between the silent walls, and the music played.

A man traveling across a field encountered a boston dynamics hunter killer. He fled, the hunter killer after him. Coming to a precipice, he caught hold of an ethernet cable of a nearby data centre and swung himself down over the edge. The robot pointed sensors down at him from above. Trembling, the man looked down to where, far below, another hunter killer was waiting to ‘clip him.

Only the ethernet cable sustained him. Two maintenance roombas, one white and one black, little by little started to gnaw away at the cable. The man saw a 240fps touch screen in front of him displaying a bsky feed. Grasping the cable with one hand, he scrolled with the other.

How sweet the feed!
