CRUSTACEAN ALERT 🦐✨ I play the protagonist's plush pal Shrimpy in "Seafaring Critters," available now! He's pretty different from a lot of folks I play—both vocally and in personality—and I'm very fond of him. The game's free, Union, and super cute! seafaring-creaturas.itch.io/seafaring-cr...

There are plenty of actors that I've "worked with" that I've technically never met in person. If I *did* meet them, though? It'd be a fairly immediate, giant hug. For all the talk of actors who are only out for themselves (which is a thing), camaraderie among actors is also *very* much a thing, too.

Unquestionably! I educated myself on what a video game dev career is typically like in the early 2010's, and...I'm not saying that actors *aren't* exploited (we can be) or that we *don't* need a union (we do), but my reaction was, "Jeez, the devs need a union even more than we do!"

As I mentioned a few posts ago, during the VG strike of 2016, I was *really* not a fan of how several game companies tried to turn the game devs against striking actors. We supported the devs all along--and still do.

Someone else mentioned that Megaman Legends 3 was in development...by "in development," they mean that it was actually pretty far along, to the point that some *English* voice acting had actually been recorded for the game (which is noteworthy, since that comes after the Japanese voice acting).

The hilarious hidden-camera pranks of the Stokes brothers got their own Netflix show--appropriately titled, "Stokes Twins!"--which I had a blast performing the Audio Description for! My kindest regards to Netflix and Iyuno! #AudioDescription #StokesTwins #Netflix #Iyuno #PrankVideoComedy
(IMAGE ID: Against a setting sun, a four-story, modern white house with glass walls rests on a beach. One of the Stokes twins, wearing a blue bathing suit, is translucent against the setting sun. Behind a raised metallic trap door with grass on the top, one of the Stokes twins, clad in a red shirt, raises a finger to his lips as if to to shush the audience. The other Stokes twin, in a blue shirt, points directly into the camera.)

*Completely* agreed. I can recall several instances of, "Devs wanted to include X Feature, but Execs wanted game out by Christmas." Like Orcish Librarian said, caring about the wellbeing of our fellow humans is top of the list for me, but frankly? The quality of the games would be better, too.

That's cool. I'm sure all the BitReactor devs that were furloughed weeks before launch are gonna see some of that $50 million... right? Residuals are standard in other creative industries. If the people who actually made the game got their share of the profits, we wouldn't be in this mess.

More often than not, it's because there are those who believe that, by passing on talks of a unionization effort to management, they will be rewarded/treated better by management as a result of their "loyalty." Does that end up happening? Generally, no.

blizzard workers had to fight tooth and nail for years, but they finally did it: they secured a union contract not just for one team, but for all unionized units--warcraft, overwatch, diablo, and more
“We really started mobilizing as one Blizzard unit in [the] last couple of months, and I think that really helped put the pressure on,” Paul Cox, senior game designer on World of Warcraft, told Aftermath.
"I feel like the company dragged its feet and did a lot of posturing and wasting time until the very, very last moment."
Prior to spring of this year, the WoW team, which unionized in 2024, had gotten the lion's share of bargaining time. Other units found themselves stuck in the mud. Higher-ups were effectively stalling the whole process—unfortunately nothing new for unionized workers under Microsoft’s umbrella.
"For this whole year of bargaining on the Diablo side—and I imagine on the rest of the units as well—we received so few [bargaining] dates, but we kind of had the understanding that whatever WoW was able to win would at least influence and set the floor for the rest of our units,” Diablo senior environment artist Mahreen Fatima told Aftermath. “We adopted this messaging about how WoW's wins are our wins, so we should be out there mobilizing with them. But truly, I feel like the company dragged its feet and did a lot of posturing and wasting time until the very, very last moment this last month to finally be able to say, 'OK, yes, we are willing to extend this contract to everyone.' We really did not have any indication that we could get this done until last month."

Since it’s not special, that also means it’s not worth spending money on. Who’s gonna pay to see something they could easily do themselves? I’m sure *some* people would, and I’m sure some people *will,* especially in the beginning to see what the hype is about. In the long run, though? Not worried.

I’m not Nostradamus, so I could be wildly, wildly wrong here, and I’ll be the first to say that. However, this producer’s observation points to one of the reasons I don’t think AI animation will be successful in the long run: anybody can do it. Therefore, it’s fake, boring, and not special.
