Treating the public like adults and trying to win the argument. Refreshing! Now lests do the same for climate change and the fact that tax rises are necessary to have the society we want.
Voters back Burnham's plan to cut back triple lock to fund social care reform by 48% to 28%, poll suggests
Sharon Graham, the Unite general secretary, said earlier this week that getting rid of the pensions triple lock to help fund social care reform would be “electoral suicide”.

This morning YouGov has published polling suggesting that she might be wrong. It suggests the voters support Burnham’s plan by 48% to 28%.

What we know about Dover and Portsmouth anti-migrant protests and organiser Danny Thomas
Danny Thomas organised the demonstration in Dover - seemingly after weeks of preparation - and was also present in Portsmouth.

Despite what our media tells you, the UK tax burden is relatively low compared to most EU countries. You get what you pay for.

“Better candidates will hold out for better pay” is the assumption I’m challenging. Better candidates don’t necessarily maximise salary. People trade income for purpose, influence and meaninful work. Otherwise academia, science, medicine and much of the public sector would have no talent at all.

Dave KP @dave-kp.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
“Pay peanuts, get monkeys” assumes pay equals quality. It doesn’t. We don’t assume academics, doctors or other public sector workers are mediocre because they earn less than others with ability. Talented people are motivated by purpose, influence and the work itself.

£100k not buying what it once did is a different issue. It still puts you among the highest earners in the country. If that isn’t enough for a good life, that says something pretty alarming about life in Britain. I’m not sure the answer is to make MPs even more financially insulated from it.

Dave KP @dave-kp.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
No, I am not. £100,000 is a good salary. Money is not the only motivator. Look at CEO pay in the charity sector vs private. You can not compare MP salary to the private sector. If you want to do that, I would argue the PS pays executives too much.

Research on "false balance" has shown that exposure to a minority scientific position can make audiences substantially underestimate the degree of expert consensus, even when they are told that a consensus exists.

Channel 4’s programme wastes a chance to ask important questions about how ADHD is diagnosed and treated, instead indulging in unscientific methods and conspiracy theories, says author Gina Rippon

The Lords debated the safety of cyclists this afternoon, and it was – with a few exceptions – as crap as you'd expect. Mix of victim blaming, poor understanding & assumption that zone 1 London is a valid national example. DfT minister Peter Hendy was disappointingly bad as well.

Casualty rows, other road user column. So I think cyclist involved in 1 pedestrian, 1 cyclist, 1 other death. Car driver that died hitting a pedestrian may have vered off the road. I am guesing. I am not familiar with this dataset but then I am not debating safety in the HoL. If I was I would be.
