#FBOMD hit the jackdaw jackpot today. 😁

Making up for lost time!

Blown about in the wind! Their favorite game!

#FirstBirdOfMyDay: A cleanup crew of crows spread across the highway, taking their duty seriously. We slowed nearly to a stop while they weighed their options of feast or flight. (Flight won.) #FBOMD #WhatsYours

#FirstBirdOfMyDay: American robin crossing the road, first hopping, then switching to a low-flying zoom, which eased my road-bird anxiety. 😁

Well? What was your first???

Dauphne @dauphne.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

The start of a new streak!

Dauphne @dauphne.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

#FirstBirdOfMyDay: A single male northern cardinal, head tilted to better observe what might be foraged on the walkay.

#FirstBirdOfMyDay: A mourning dove flying up, up, and away from me. I startled their partner, too, a few seconds later. Same result.

😮 The jackdaw streak is broken!

Interesting! I like this. What have you the idea to do that? Were the packets Halloween-y orange (like Maruchan)?

Well, that just looks fantastic!

Their numbers have greatly decreased here over the past two summers. I hope it's because they have found a more suitable habitat, but I suspect the drought (now in its 16th month) and the increasing presence of raptors have contributed.

Mourning doves showing up everywhere! 😄

Thank you for sharing that. I have bookmarked the linked story. Very good advice. (And who knew my pessimism could be beneficial in some circumstances? 😄)

You always have an abundance of birds! 😀

Cool-looking 😎 or cool looking 🥶?

#FirstBirdOfMyDay: Mourning dove, a former regular for me, but which hasn't appeared as my first in a long time!

Fantastic! I wasn't familiar with the term "hedgerow dye" but I've looked it up, and now I have ideas. 😁

Late boneset (Eupatorium serotinum) is a pollinator magnet! Even better, this fragrant native wildflower is a volunteer, showing up on its own as a welcome addition to my backyard. #SmallBeautiesHour

#FirstBirdOfMyDay: Two loud crows startling me with their caws as they zipped directly overhead.

I don't keep a watch, but the cats usually alerted me when the turtle was there due to their sudden interest in what was going on outside the window. (Birds are nothing new to them, ho-hum.😂 )

I've seen similar with the cardinals here.

I don't know who drank the water on the days I didn't see the turtle, but it was emptied most days!

Exactly. Small water dishes and bird baths here to conserve water during the drought (while my neighbor watered his lawn almost daily 🫤).

Didn't you have an interesting seasonal streak last year, too? It was in November, though, if I remember correctly. Was it jackdaws then, as well? That part I do not remember.
