I'd argue establishing boundaries is a part of securing a system. Containers by themselves are not a guarantee of security, but they are definitely a component. Namespaces, seccomp, landlock, firewall rules, DNS allowlisting, etc. Also, to be blunt, there's a lot to be learned by an intro like that.

Apparently on systemd distros /etc/fstab is actually turned into mount units by /usr/lib/systemd/system-generators/systemd-fstab-generator. It's the same workflow used to produce quadlets, except that one is run by /usr/lib/systemd/system-generators/podman-system-generator. #Linux #systemd #quadlets

This might sound weird, but it would be nice to have a Lua library for DuckDB. I was just working with pandoc, which uses pandoc-lua to create filters by default, and I have some translated filenames in a DuckDB that I wanted to access. What do you think? Anyone else for Lua support?

After looking a bit more into using pods in podman, I realized that those cannot really replace compose files. Quadlets seem to be a better candidate for this, as they provide .pod, .container, .volume, and .network units, with access to the usual systemd dependencies (Requires, After, Wants).

Github downtime since the Microsoft acquisition
This image is a line graph titled **"GitHub Average Uptime by Month"** covering a period from April 2016 to early 2026. A subtitle notes that "Codespaces and Copilot [are] excluded due to launch partway through dataset."
The graph tracks availability percentages, with the y-axis ranging from **99.500%** to **100.000%**.
### Visual Overview
 * **The Line:** The data is plotted as a continuous line with colored dots at each monthly data point.
 * **The Trend:** * From **2016 to late 2018**, the line is almost perfectly flat at the **100.000%** mark, colored primarily in green.
   * Following a vertical dashed line labeled **"Microsoft Acquires GitHub"** (dated late 2018), the line becomes significantly more volatile.
   * From **2019 through 2026**, the line shows frequent, jagged drops, with several "dips" falling between **99.600%** and **99.800%**.
 * **Color Coding:** * **Green dots** indicate months with 100% or near-100% uptime.
   * **Yellow and Red dots/lines** are used for the more volatile period post-2019, highlighting the decrease in stability.
### Key Milestones
 * **Pre-Acquisition (2016 – Oct 2018):** Stability is represented as a consistent green line at the top of the chart.
 * **Post-Acquisition (Oct 2018 – 2026):** The graph shows a marked increase in downtime incidents. The lowest point on the graph occurs around **early 2023**, where uptime briefly drops near **99.500%**.
 * **Recent Data:** The volatility continues through the end of the chart in **early 2026**, showing frequent fluctuations between 99.8% and 99.95%.
