I've also personally not been fond of trackballs as much due to their limited movement, though I do understand the reason for their existence.

I had actually thought about getting something similar, since I had planned on doing more production with my pen display than just mouse and keyboard. It's an interesting challenge if you used mouse and keyboard for a long time. Try playing games with that, too.

The game in its current state, from what I heard, is quite buggy. And to make sense of the continuity, it's suggested to play the original Minecraft Dungeons first.

I was gifted a copy of #MinecraftDungeonsII and, so far, the game hasn't been too bad. There were a handful of multiplayer-only bugs I've encountered though. So for those who don't want to deal with bugs, you could, maybe, wait a bit longer for a patch.

There's nothing wrong with adapting a game to be more of a cozy vibe. Not every player is a speed runner. Some people may probably be spending far more time in stages, just taking in the visuals and setting without being under a stressful time limit.

But of course, not every person will go out of their way to visit your channel page to see pronouns, so they'll just assume based on voice and naturally get them wrong. There are masculine-sounding women out there, so it's not unusual to have a masculine-sounding voice.

DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I don't usually encounter people using wrong pronouns unless it's a person I've known well before I started my transition, in which case I just politely remind them, rather than needing to state them at the start of every videos. The pronouns beside the name should be a good enough indication.

I found it interesting how we went from NES hardware clones with subpar compatibility to ARM-based (or similar) emulators with somehow worse compatibility and/or experience.

Yeah, and it is understandable since I don't have nearly as much time to fool around as I used to, and seeing how I may be starting a new job soon, that will take away some free time, but income is more important in this world. I do wish you good luck on future streams! I hope to be able to tune in.

DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I do wish I knew about the stream. Honestly you should do more of them.

I'd say go for it! As a trans lesbian myself, we need more lesbian and trans representation in games in my opinion.

Honestly, I can't wait for the rest of the game to come out, since it's been a good experience so far.

Of course, I'm not saying that the original bootlegs aren't worth at least taking a look at. The jank is part of their charm, and an improvement hack can take away from that. If you don't want the jank, it's better to play the original game a bootleg is trying to imitate.
000
DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
You have a fair point, since they do take away from the jank they had originally. I'd rather just play the original game than a fan reinterpretation of said original using existing bootleg assets. The jank a lot of bootlegs have is part of their charm, and "improvement" hacks take away from that.

DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
This type of stuff has inspired me to come up with ideas for a definitive NES rhythm game, as well as diving deeper into the rabbit hole of bootleg games and adjacent plug 'n play equivalents, enhanced or not.

DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Another thing that I find interesting is people going out of their way to hack NES bootlegs to the point where they're almost good enough to pass as homebrew games, when they're still bootlegs under the hood. Maybe @pirategamething.com has a thing or more to say about them?

If you have genuine and constructive criticisms about something, at least word it in a way that sounds like your own opinion, and don’t try to make it sound like it’s a bigger problem than it really is. Never force your own opinions on others as if it were fact.

As interest as I am seeing more retro games getting native PC ports via source recompilations. Unfortunately, the majority of said recompilations are low-quality AI trash that personally should be ignored at all costs. I get if you need AI for some stuff, but don’t vibe code it all.
000
DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Also to note, I was using the native Linux version of the game, not running the Windows version through Proton. Though I wouldn't doubt that the Windows version would run through Proton.

I won’t tolerate anyone who endorses AI food or anything that is entirely, or majorly, made with AI. Anyone who starts posting AI slop will be blocked or unfollowed. I had plans of doing new assets with zero AI tool involvement.

It just seems to me that not only PlayStation is suffering immense backlash, but XBOX is losing a lot of talent in their “reset.” With Bungie finally realizing their mistakes and taking steps to earn back the trust of the fans they had disappointed.

My first video games were Super Mario World and Super Mario Kart. Though I've mostly played the GBA version of Super Mario World and rarely ever got to play Mario Kart. It felt weird to me when playing the SNES versions of Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3 since I played the GBA versions first.

I thought about getting one of those for my pen display, though I don't know of any software that would allow it to work on my Arch Linux system. Yeah, I'm trying to stay as far away from the trash heap known as Windows as much as possible.

I remembered SMB3 (the GBA version) being quite the challenge to beat 100%, but girl did it feel satisfying to get that 100% completion.

The demo has now been completed on Steam Deck. First impressions are great.

When I was playing the first level, I instinctively pushed the down button and expecting crouching to happen, only for it to do nothing. Slightly confused, but I kept on playing.

DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
It does play better at 60 Hz though.

DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
The only potential issue I can tell is the input delay. I actually had a bit of trouble adjust to the controls because of it. And I usually look at the controls if possible before playing so I'm used to them. I rarely customize controls.

It seemed to run at the correct speed.

The Steam Deck has a frame rate limiter option in gaming mode where you can lower the frame rate down to 40 Hz. The LCD Steam Deck supports 40 Hz and 60 Hz. 90 Hz is OLED exclusive.

DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
I had it limited to 40 Hz to conserve power. It can run at 60 FPS just fine.

This is an LCD Steam Deck. I got mine before the OLED was a thing.

Got it on my Steam Deck ready to play when the time comes!

And here’s the game running on the Steam Deck for any who are curious. :3

I’d hate to see a DOOM game in Unreal Engine. IDTech deserves another chance.

Honestly, we need another Dino Crisis game more akin to the first two games, in the style of the recent Resident Evil remakes.

I was one of the poor souls to hear the atrocity that is botched audio emulation.

Oh God... Try listening to that on one of those old AtGames Genesis clone systems...

I wonder if I should, if I do make my first NES game, make it an option in the game settings to swap the duty cycles for those playing on a clone, or want their game to sound like it's being played on a clone despite playing on a real NES or accurate emulator.
000
DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
I remember watching a video about how you might not remember the Super Mario Bros. theme right and the fact that many, many NES clones get the duty cycles mixed up, even going as far as to making a simple hack that "un-swaps" the duty cycles, though only for the music.

And also, Mega Man X for DOS.
000
DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
The most egregious example in the Mega Man X series that I know of is Mega Man X DiVE (Offline). I've heard some questionable stuff about it, but it could just be me not remembering things correctly.

In fact, if or when I do start game development, I do want to make my own original title that isn't just an 8-bit NES style game, but an NES game, period.
010
DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
Same, since just because Mega Man 9 and 10 stuck to the NES style of the first six Mega Man games doesn't mean they're bad games. There are plenty of good games made in the 8-bit NES style.

And this is coming from someone who is obsessed with Tetris.
000
DB20 @database-20.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
I see. The unbranded version. I personally never played a particular version of it. But if I were to start playing, for some reason I would start with Panel de Pon on Super Famicom. Not sure why Nintendo thought slapping the Tetris name onto an unrelated puzzle game was a good idea.
