Mineshaft Marauders Part IV: The Mine
Catch up! When I got back to the Big Mammoth, I found John Gregory leaning up against a tree next to the mineshaft, chewing on a wheat straw. The impatient look on his face was made all the more menacing by his bushy beard, and animal skin attire. I glanced down to see that the steel grate was still shut, and the thick padlock still fastened.

The Birth of Legends: This Thursday Night
Have you ever known a legend? Maybe it’s someone who inspires confidence by vanquishing their own insecurities… Or displays unfathomable courage in the face of mortal danger… Indeed, legends are born in many different ways. Some overcome tremendous obstacles to emerge victorious over a far greater enemy. Others accomplish amazing feats of strength, speed, and physical agility, all in the name of protecting those weaker than themselves.

I wasn't prepared for the creative outflow of content that was going to stem from writing this week's article... But, as I was doing the research for Hug a Thug or Fry a Felon, the idea of justice quickly became a fascinating topic for me. Not only because of its outsized impact on American culture, but because of the way it speaks to the carnal side of humanity.

Catch Up! By the time I was walking through the old western “batwing” doors of the Gold Coin Saloon, the afternoon was starting to age like swiss cheese, left out on the countertop too long. Dry. Stale. A little musky. Maybe it was the heat of the day warming up Central City’s Main Street, mixing together with all the fortune that had been won and lost in the casinos the night before.

Death of the Bajillionaire
Sundays are hit or miss for rideshare driving. It largely depends on what kind of week the churchgoers are having. If they’re feeling blessed, the tips are good. If they’re seeking meaning in their lives, then they tend to save their spare dollars for the tithe basket. In any event, there weren’t many churchgoers out on this particular Sunday. Instead, everyone I picked up seemed to still be working off their Saturday night.

Mineshaft Marauders Part II: The Caretaker
Catch up! Ah, Central City… That shining mountain town, home to illustrious casinos, hotels and restaurants, all standing as monuments to the “boom and bust” heritage of the Centennial State. If Golden is the gateway to the Rockies, then surely Black Hawk and Central City serve as their foyer. In the early days, these rustic mining camps were known as “The Richest Square Mile on Earth.” A moniker made famous after John Hamilton Gregory discovered paydirt near the Vasquez Fork, on the South Platte River in the winter of 1859.

In terms of being a military leader, Julius Caesar was about as effective as a glass axe when he first started out. He blundered. He miscalculated. He made logistical errors that might very well have cost him his life, if only he’d been fighting a more capable enemy… But he wasn’t. Instead, he was fighting the Gauls, who, despite being fearsome warriors, were busy battling rival tribes within their own country.

Be Legendary
What’s in a legend? Mystery, intrigue and wonder no doubt.  More than that, though, legends hold the stuff of the human heart… The desire to become larger than life. A hunger to taste the bittersweet flavors of immortality. A zest for life that can only be found in the cheating of death. Yes, legends are the vehicle in which many of us travel to reach our ‘center’, discovering our true selves in the process.

The Escapism Artist
Written by Dastem Angelica's father worked as a prison janitor just up the road from their small, one-bedroom apartment. Although he usually stayed drunk in between his long work hours, there was never any doubt in Angelica’s mind that he loved her. He just wasn’t always good at showing it. By contrast, her mother had run off not long after she was born.
