The plus side of accidentally cutting myself with an X-acto knife is that the cut is so clean it barely hurts and will likely heal well. The down side that I did, like, THE thing you're supposed to be careful not to do with an X-acto knife.

I made cake. Bluesky won't let me upload photos, so have to image the series of images. Sloppy chocolate cake with three six inch tiers. Same cake with the top two tiers sliced in half, sliding away from each other, held in place on one side by a large knife and the other by hand. Cake parts in tub.

Today my mom got jump scared by a goth at a bus stop. I was just driving down the road and saw two goths, and right as we passed one turned toward the street and I saw her makeup was extensive and impressive and then my mom was like 'Oh my god, what was that?!'

Necessary context: my first ever pap smear got a sketchy result so I had been called in for the much more unpleasant procedure one step up. Doctor doing the procedure is fine, but the head of the department comes in with a trainee and asks to observe. Trainee is male, other doctors female. 1/

Finished reading The Berlin Stories today. Definitely expected to be depressed by reading fictionalized accounts of real life in Berlin 1929-33 Surprised by how depressed I was by the author's self sensoring of his own queerness, and how that continued through adaptation.

Sometimes being an adult is okay. I can just decide that I want butter tarts, and then in a couple of hours there can be butter tarts.

Twenty four tiny tarts sit on a white oval serving plate. Their golden brown shells are scraggly and uneven, but their rich delicious dark brown filling is fresh from the oven, one or two still showing visible liquid as the molten butter and sugar hasn't full hardened. Not a high presentation baking project, but a delicious one nonetheless.

These water machines have been fighting for their lives for months, but this is the most visually poetic I think their struggle can get.

A photo of two fancy black machines for dispensing hot or cold water and ice. One of them has a piece of paper taped to it that says 'out of service'. That machine's overflow tray is covered in a layer of ice cubes. The ground in front of the machine has a mound of ice cubes melting into a puddle in the cheap carpet. Someone familiar enough with the machines might note that the 'out of service' sign has been placed over the top of the proximity sensor for triggering the ice dispenser.
