An updated figure for this thought experiment. 🧮 ⚛️ ☄️ 🎢 🧪 The thick blue line is the flash of light shone towards the black hole from Earth. The thick red lines are photons reflected back at beam splitters. The collapsing star's surface, flash of light and astronaut all arrive coincidentally at r_h.

Black hole geometry is wild. 🧮 ⚛️ 🎢 ☄️ 🧪 Take the blue ingoing null line just before the astronaut dives in to be a ray of photons that encounters beam splitters the whole way down, at regular intervals that reflect some photons directly back out along the outgoing red null lines. 1/

A mathematical proof that the standard black hole narrative of the last six decades has been false—that all gravitationally collapsing matter asymptotically approaches the size of its event horizon. 7 pages, 3 figures; using only standard grad level relativity tools. cosmicave.org/wp-content/u...

Surely there must be some black hole or GW physicist out there, or some geometer or relativist, who can follow and would be interested in a formal geometric proof that clearly shows how and why we’ve been wrong about the physics of gravitational collapse for nearly a century… ⚛️ #mathsky ☄️

Well I think that explains another goat misunderstanding on this point. Markus, I am and have always been talking about null lines in the radial direction, towards the central mass. I’m talking basic causality in the radial direction. From emission event, *radially in towards the collapsing mass*.

Ok think about it this way. I’m thinking radial collapse in Sch. The GWs we see followed a null path. They originated at some event above the black hole, but trace that null line back to the collapsing mass. What happens if a collision happens at that radius? More mass, so the field changes and…

Really??? A weird technicality? Photons were detected. They were emitted from the region surrounding the central mass. Please tell me what terminology you'd prefer in e. What matters to me is the fact about causal history represented in the image.

I'm talking about the causal structure of spacetime. The null structure. Yesterday, I provided this image to you and said trace a line back to an intermediate event that represents photons coming from the photon sphere—the past light cone of that event intersects the still-collapsing mass.

Keep it simple. Here’s the causal structure in Sch geometry in an ingoing EF frame outside a spherically collapsing star. The relevant lines are the red outgoing null lines. Choose one. Trace it back to an event you’re content to call the event at which a photon was emitted at the photon sphere. 1/3

Thoughts? This is nontrivial. If the logic holds, the consequences for horizons, singularities, and information loss would be significant. 🧪 ⚛️ #cosmology Preprint: cosmicave.org/wp-content/u...

Here's an update on things I've had going on. It feels important. I think this is a big deal. cosmicave.org/2026/01/18/t... 🧪 ⚛️ 🔭

Reality and the ways we perceive it fascinate me. Not just “what physics says.” And never what I want it to be. The universe itself. Given room to be what it is —and patience to infer without prejudice. That’s what science should always aim for. cosmiCave.org/links/ 🔭 🧪 ⚛️

The common idea that spacetime is the fabric of reality — that it even exists at all — is ineluctably false on basic definitions alone. So how did we get here? Cognitive dissonance? Intellectual inertia? A failure to interrogate basic concepts philosophically? cosmicave.org/links/

Does space-time really exist? That idea has shaped physics for over a century. But when you look closely, it doesn’t hold together. This article explains what goes wrong. Read here: cosmicave.org/links/

Eternalists — from Parmenides to Penrose, Brian Greene, and many philosophers of science today — have long relied on the false idea that space-time exists, taking from it a false sense of security that obscures the deeper error: treating occurrences as things that exist 1/ 🧪 🔭 ⚛️ #philsci #philosophy

A second (related) issue: Physicists interpret collapse using picture (b)—a naive Cartesian reading of a non-Euclidean geometry, described in one coordinate basis, projected onto a Euclidean plane, and then taken to represent ontological reality. But GR only gives us (a) (7/)

Daryl Janzen @darylj.bsky.social · 12/11/2025
Why is b always interpreted as the story? It takes a non-Euclidean geometry, describes it in one coordinate frame, projects it onto a Euclidean plane, then makes a Cartesian reading. I think c is a more compelling story, avoids paradox — and GR does not discriminate!! Ie GR only gives us a. 🧪 ⚛️ 🔭
