Title: Watch your language! Keeping morale up in the fight against facism.

Character A: That protest wasn't enough! We need to do more!
B: Stop! This kind of talk actually hurts our cause. I know what you're trying to do. You think if you say:
A: We need to do more than we did!
Group, looking motivated: Ok! Let's do more!
or,
A: That action made a big difference.
Group, walking away: Well, we did it! Everyone go home.

B: People are the most motivated when they can see their actions causing an immediate change and positive effect. And they won't want to repeat actions they think didn't have a big effect.
A simple graph shows a stick figure getting demotivated when the time to reach their result is too long.
So this is the real effect of your words:
A: We need to do more than we did!
Group, concerned: That didn't do anything? Maybe my actions don't really matter...
A: That action made a big difference.
Group, celebrating: Maybe my actions really matter! What should we do next?

It's natural to think that the perfect event, if BIG and STRONG enough, will solve everything overnight.

But this is a myth. One person alone has a small skillset, a small sphere of influence, and a small impact. The event that finally tips the scale may feel like a special event that finally did something different. But it isn't special.

It's crazy to me that none of these apps let you categorize your posts. Being able to follow/unfollow specific types of posts from people would be amazing! You could post whatever you want without worrying about losing followers who followed for a particular type of content.

This is a fantastic UX thread! I'll add a UX fact: If your app doesn't load quickly, most users will never experience it at all. They'll bounce before they see your beautiful 4k header video. Devs: Cache everything & compress everything. Cloudflare will do a lot of that for you for free.

Everyone who passes by my office today gets a reminder to check their voter reg status. So far, many Pitt students have told me they already voted! Another filled out their mail-in ballot and are sending it in this week. Another checked w/ me their Election Day polling place. This is how we win.

Google Photos Unblur feature works better than I expected! Looks kinda alright at a glance... just don't zoom in 😂

Before and after of a blurry photo that I used Google Photos to unblur. Parts of the "unblurred" image look like an oil painting up close. And the new image is still very blurry, but much sharper than the original.
