This is a disgrace. When planes kept in captivity and become sad, their tail flops over. This one is clearly depressed and needs to be set free. Do the right thing Delta.

Packing for the trip north this week. First order of business…camera gear for the visit to the Australian Armor and Artillery museum on Wednesday. I should be OK but a bit nervous whether I’ll have enough storage for the follow up visit Thursday. Maybe I *should* take the laptop after all…
Canon 5D Mark 2 with 72Gb of CF cards and 4 batteries. Canon G15 with 2 batteries and with 192Gb of SD cards. Canon M80 storage device with 80Gb backup storage.

Hopefully that’ll do.

Another one from the recent trip south. Holga 120N, Kentmere 400 and developed in Rodinal
Two Sydney ferries side by side at Sydney’s Circular Quay with the Sydney Harbour Bridge behind. Taken with a toy Holga camera with a plastic lens so the image has strong lens flaring along the bottom and through the middle of the image. The image is a black and white photo

On memory, imagination and aggrieved nostalgia. "I wonder that because in spite of Hanson and her party’s dizzying (even sickening) rise in the polls, there is a natural breakwater against her ever taking that tide at the flood and riding it to power. It’s called being young."

Just had my copy of the reprint of Panzer Tracts No.5-3 arrive (the Panther Ausf. G) Browsing through the various photos, I recollect hearing someone years ago bemoaning the habit of scale modellers to hang buckets from their armor, and they were sure it was just an affectation or fad…

Somewhat happy with this one except the endpapers. I’ve glued these down with 50/50 glue and paste and now it’s dried the endpapers are pulling the cover into a slight inward curve…might need more time in the press perhaps….

Ok, calling this done for now. Still have to put stowage on the back deck, but I can chip away at that. A bit more weathered than what I’d intended, but you know what? This is my first finished kit in…. 30 years so I’m gonna call it a success.

Painting up some tool clamps.
A rather dirty finger. Perched on the end of the fingertip is a 1/35 scale tool clamp to fit a tool to a vehicle fender. The little clamp measures approximately 4mm long, 1 mm wide and 2 mm high. It is my third attempt as the previous two have taken flight, never to be seen again

un piccione.
A black and white image of well worn cobblestones.

A pigeon (un piccione) struts past somewhat out of focus to the top of the picture.

The cobblestones are in fact cobblestones of the Piazza San Pietro. We were taking a bit of a breather before walking back to our hotel. I distinctly remember this moment as shortly after a member of the Polizia di Stato very excitedly turned to me and pointed to a building nearby ‘Il papa!’ - he had such a look of joy and wonderment on his face… (the previous Pope, not the current one-it was some time ago)

Used to work here. Literally walked out the front during lunch, plonked down the tripod, banged off a couple of frames (this was the pick of the litter) the. Walked back inside. Canon5D Mark II, red Cokin filter and probably a couple of neutral density filters on top to get a nice long exposure
Looking up the smooth glass face of a city building towards the sky. The image is black, white and tones of grey. It is a long exposure image, so the small clouds are smeared across the section of sky that can be seen. The glass face of the building reflects the white smeared clouds. A red filter was used, which has turned the normally blue parts of the sky black. It almost looks like the viewer is standing on a glass floor looking through a canyon created by two wings of the building to the left and right

The corner of a building without windows, just panels against a cloudy sky. The image is in black and white with many shades of grey from the panels and the shadows of the corner of the building. The edges of the panels form a zig zag pattern that is repeated in the over all composition of the photo with the roof line and building corner repeating a single large zig zag against the sky

Quickly knocked out a quick sketching art book for a gift for tomorrow. A benefit of a. having done about a dozen of these now and b. having a backlog of materials means these simple sewn board bound books are a doodle to knock out at shortish notice now
A small A5sized book sits on top of a green vinyl cutting mat. The corners and spine of the book are covered in a matte grey material that matches the covering of Japanese chiyogami paper with a triangular geometric pattern in gold and grey lines on a black background. The page edges of the book have been sponged with gold paint.

Another one from New Zealand’s South Island in the teeny tiny town of Glenorchy at the north end of Lake Wakatipu. Taken with a Canon 5D Mk II with I recollect at least two ND8 filters to help extend the exposure time
A timber jetty reaches out into Lake Wakatipu with the hills on the far side of the lake shrouded in cloud. Being a long exposure image, the water is smooth and the clouds have streaked. The light from the clouds is reflected in the smooth water giving it a milky appearance (which has been boosted via some additional post processing to enhance this). The smoothness of the water and sky contrasts I think nicely with the gritty texture of the timber jetty and its railing seem to the right.

And now for something a bit different and not photography related… The most recent binding effort. A small A5 sketchbook for a family friend using a simple sewn boards binding.
A small notebook sits on a black glass desk. The spine is covered in a dark blue bookcloth that looks almost black in the photo. The spine covering extends approximately two centimetres onto the front (and back) cover. The same bookcloth has been used to protect the corners of the book. The covering material for the book is a Japanese chiyogami paper with pink and white flowers on a navy background. Areas of the navy background have a lighter blue geometric pattern. The edges of the book can be seen, with a blue speckled edge treatment.

An old pickup truck, possibly 30’s or 40’s vintage sits amongst trees. The photo is taken of the side of the pickup. Only the cab and a portion of the tray can be seen. Ferns and plants have been planted in timber boxes on the side running board, the tray and a large plant has been placed on the front wheel arch. Hanging from the drivers side door is a modern ‘Drive Safely’ road sign. Chains can be seen hanging from the side of the tray, and a whimsical small windmill can be seen also mounted in the tray. The photo is in black and white.

Ooo… first skeet. What shall I post? How about a nice piccie from a trip to New Zealand a few years back. Shot with a Canon 5D Mk II.
A long exposure photo looking south across Lake Wakatipu in the South Island of New Zealand towards Cecil Peak. It’s dusk and the last of the afternoon sun kisses the top of Cecil Peak with the lower slopes in shadow. The surface of the lake appears glasslike, the pebbles of the shore in the bottom of the frame can be seen through the clear waters of the lake. A small rock wall lies to the right of the frame, pointing towards the distant peak. To the far right of frame a line of pine/conifer trees stand silhouetted.
Due to the long exposure (and some post processing) the colours are deeply saturated blues and orange from the sunlight on the distant peak. A deep blue sky is above with wispy cirrus clouds standing out from the deep blue sky.
