All complaints aside, I'm glad I watched it. Joe Buck was slightly better than adequate, and it had a breezy feel. I still would have preferred hardcore sports nerds as contestants.

Even the audiences were bad. They applauded randomly when a player got an easy question right, often irrespective of their score. And one Final Jeopardy (I won't spoil further) indicated to me that the crowd had never watched Jeopardy, can't do basic math, or both.

The games overall kept my interest but were largely terrible. Nearly every one was a runaway, many replete with players going on tilt and over-guessing terribly. Also, it seems that any TV sports personality under 40 doesn't know shit.

Just finished watching ESPN Jeopardy! Remember when I predicted that I'd think, "wow, Jon Hamm knows things about baseball I also know"? That came true (and also, I know many more things about baseball that he doesn't). He did reasonably well, though.

Nootbaar, eh? OK. I'm a little miffed at the Tigers for dealing their best pitchers to our rivals, but I think things can work out. We need pitching? We have Burnes, Soroka, Puk, and J-Mart all coming back soon. First base? Ildemaro has been better than expected. This roster can win games.

Those of you eager to serve wealthy MLB owners as volunteer Pinkertons won’t like to read this, but as usual Joe Sheehan nails the real problem:

Joe Sheehan: This trade is a microcosm of the real problem MLB has faced for decades. It’s not about haves and have-nots, but wants and want-nots. The Dodgers, and teams like them, want to win more than teams like the Tigers do, so they go out and acquire the Tigers’ best pitcher. MLB has built an entire labor strategy and media campaign around demonizing the Dodgers, when in fact it’s the Tigers who are wrecking baseball. You have to be through the looking glass to think the sport’s problem is the team that’s trying to win rather than the team that’s trading Tarik Skubal while sitting 2 1/2 games out of a playoff spot.
