In April 2022, Carrey announced that he was considering retirement from the film industry, explaining, "I have enough. I've done enough. I am enough." When asked if he would ever come back, his response was, "It depends. announced that Carrey would reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.[116]](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:4muri6zol4jwdltg2kdiu6vm/bafkreibdruje4loe4mu5nephfpxytmyw6ykhmyxe4pt35owheeld6isnpe)
