It's October 1st, and I'm celebrating two book birthdays. Ten years ago I released Amanda on The Danube: The Sounds of Music. I was in the middle of moving to Spain when I wrote this book. I still don't know how I managed it. My great-granddaugher tells me this is her favourite Amanda Travels book. Twelve-year-old Amanda Ross finds herself on an elegant riverboat with her bestie, Leah, cruising down the beautiful Danube, passing medieval castles, luscious green valleys and charming villages.

Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia, Canada. It is a charming city, named after Queen Victoria, located on Vancouver Island, a ninety-minute ferry ride from the mainland. I love it there and visit whenever I can. Following are some door and building photos from a fun visit with my BFF a few years ago. She published hundreds of articles, including some for the American Bar Association Journal. Later, she became a school teacher, where she taught many Mexican students. While shopping in Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow, I came across a shop called GET Free Books Glasgow. Photo from GET Free Books Facebook page Free and books - two of my favourite words. I had to check it out. Inside was bright and tidy. A sign indicated everyone was allowed to take three books, and although they were free, you still needed to go to the counter and let the volunteer know which ones you were taking.

I love discovering authors who write compelling stories. A cousin from Calgary suggested I read Finding Flora by Elinor Florence; a story that takes place in Alberta during the homesteading days. I loved the book. I learned the author would be doing a book signing in Calgary at the same time I was visiting, so I dropped in to say hello.

The gorgeous house we get to stay at for one week in August for our writers' retreat. The upper window is "my" bedroom for the week. The view from my window is the friendly neighbour's house and yard. It has its own stories too. The part on the side used to be the donkey stables when donkeys were used to deliver items off the boats coming from the mainland.

I've been to Valencia more than once, so I have many pictures of the doors, windows and architecture of this wonderful city. I took my cousin visiting from Canada there, and we explored a part of the city I hadn't been to before..
