dark @darkswordsman.com · 31mCompletely agree. The open nature of BlueSky and AT means we can have reddit-style communities, but through custom interfaces, and a much more natural system can emerge through its usage and continued community development. 010

All it takes is for an influential senior person to say "I don't think they're very good" or "they're not serious." 131424

Your career advancement depends on confidential letters of reference & private discussions amongst faculty. You have no information or control. 7685110

dark @darkswordsman.com · 7hCases like this at universities should pretty much never be public information until they are actually resolved privately. This isn't to say journalism should be restricted. It's to say that the system should be bulletproof enough so journalists can't even hear whisperings. 010
dark @darkswordsman.com · 7hAnd it's precisely because of that why I think cases like this need to be handled with the seriousness and respect they deserve. They should be legitimate investigations no matter what, but they should be handled very privately through a legitimate legal process. 110
dark @darkswordsman.com · 7hMy friend was accused and the accuser was lying. My friend is one of the nicest people on the planet and this person was accusing him of things because she had significant mental health issues that she projected on to others and never seeked help for. 110
dark @darkswordsman.com · 7hI had a friend who was falsely accused of sexual assault. I was around for many interactions literally including sleeping in the same room because that's how these universities work by cramming people into small spaces to make as much money as possible. 110
dark @darkswordsman.com · 7hIt's handling some of the most sensitive cases, but because of the way it works, something that is allegedly a legitimate crime that typically would face prison time, can simply be casually turned into a witch hunt. 110
dark @darkswordsman.com · 7hAlso, to clarify on the Title IX stuff: I think Title IX should be bolstered to be a legitimate legal process. The way that system works is too loose and it puts too much trust in the authority at each University. It's not a proper legal process. 110
dark @darkswordsman.com · 8hBy trying to reveal the identity of the victim, regardless of whether or not they are lying, you are encouraging a culture where legitimate cases are discouraged from happening and you are encouraging rape culture. These cases should be completely private and handled appropriately. 110
dark @darkswordsman.com · 8hVictims need to have a safe way to report and have trust in a system to protect them. Because the moment this doesn't happen, which is what often happens, victims don't feel safe doing the basic steps that would ensure they get justice. 110
dark @darkswordsman.com · 8hWhen you encourage victims' information being shared, it discourages legitimate victims from actually coming forward. I say this as someone who thinks Title IX is unfair and university police existing is a joke/should be illegal, due to a friend being falsely accused. 110
dark @darkswordsman.com · 8hBecause the goal of cases like this should be to further restrict public information. Honestly, defendants shouldn't have their names posted either, and everything should be handled privately through the court. Anything else would discourage victims from getting justice. 140

dark @darkswordsman.com · 16hskill level, capability, and where I could improve in providing services. Granted, this turned into *not* doing any commissions anymore for the most part, that's still a me problem and it's good I had that feedback. 010
dark @darkswordsman.com · 16hIn my case. I have done some commission work before and I always gave a time frame. If I ran over, I would update them and ask them what they want. If I ever felt like I couldn't finish the work, I would offer refunds. I think this should be the default. It forces me to evaluate my actual-- 110
dark @darkswordsman.com · 16hI think that even if the artist is in a tight financial situation or whatever, if they are selling a service to you, you should have some expected time frame for the result of the services rendered. We should stop reinforcing a culture where we don't establish time frames because it feels rude. 110

dark @darkswordsman.com · 20hThe fourth wall breaks by Jax are a way to make the viewer feel the same way that Jax does, since that is what it feels like between masks. dark @darkswordsman.com · 20hI think there is a path forward, but it requires serious ethical and legal evaluation. I do think these things need to be regulated, and we shouldn't wait until catastrophe happens. This technology is insanely powerful, and I really don't think we are ready for its effects. 000
dark @darkswordsman.com · 20hBut at the same time, it's really Pandora's box. They're terrifying, especially psychologically, in ways we could have never imagined. They are capable of functional reasoning and *feeling* authentic, but it's difficult to tell if it's actually doing that or just parroting patterns back at us. 100
dark @darkswordsman.com · 20hI've been doing this all because I do believe there is value to these things, despite their origins. I think the value of all human information (with consent) to build these systems is valuable, because it *can* enable us to do so much more. 100
