Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 05/10/2026My family all stayed there aside from my Nana who moved over to Manchester with her family. No steelworks here, but my great grandfather was a miner who was in the ARP during WW2. Sadly he then died in his forties. They had a tough life back then didn’t they. 110
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I’ve literally visited twice and immediately felt that both times. 010
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Sounds like you’re busy Chris, hope all is ok with your neighbour’s wife. It’s good they have you to help like that. Those will be fun in some of our crosswinds! Nice though 👌 Just got back, covered in mud. Happy as a pig in sh… 😂 020
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Our family grave is in Burngreave (they were all from Sheffield). Quite honestly the most beautiful cemetery I’ve ever visited. 110
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Forty miler, back on the gravel setup. Definitely in need of a new wheel for winter. 1200
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Starting October with a hill, a fox and a torrential downpour on the way back. 0324
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 27/09/2026It was so peaceful, not to jinx things but I think the tourists are thinning 010
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Brutal, but we have our fair share of those here (much quieter too). 010
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I have written a story about being a teenager in care and what having a job meant in a world that was anything but normal. #writing substack.com/@darkonelf/n... 030

Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Today has been amazing, so special for my old man. I swear, this city has the kindest people & I’m proud it’s in my blood. Love the north. 1161
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 23/09/2026In the van heading north, never going to tire of this. The solitude, the space, the dark. Love it. 0342
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 20/09/2026This pair were absolutely full of themselves yesterday after snagging an entire carriage just for them. Seriously, can’t leave them alone for five minutes. 160
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Well, hello Bluesky friends. Thanks for the shares on that photo last night etc. Feels a bit weird after sitting in a corner talking to myself on Substack lol. Anyway, been out in the rain this morning & came back with a new QOM (improved time, I now hold it solo). The one I really wanted, boom. 0110
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Always awaiting the next one. It was so bad it was actually hilarious. 010
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Sorry to read this. Hope everything has settled with the weirdo next door now too. Re the ride, how did it go? 000
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Sorry I missed this. Have you been out at all recently? I know what you mean, we’ll be changing to the gravel setup soon. 100
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 13/09/2026For the train people. This came through Clarby the other day, how beautiful. 0462
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 13/09/2026It was honestly brutal! Thanks Gerry, it’s great to see a familiar face over there. Just subscribed to you also. 110
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Can’t interest you in this route then Chris? Lol According to the Strava segments in Hill Hell, I’m the only woman on them since 2021. Savage. If you’re wanting flat, St Davids is about the best, although wouldn’t be a long route. Can’t stand white line roads, the psychology changes immediately. 020
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 12/09/2026A day in Hill Hell. #cycling lauraduthie.substack.com/p/a-day-in-h... 3150
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Not even going to correct the typos in the post below because it shows the day. Hill hell. 0140
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 11/09/2026We've been lost for hours, went for a trip around hill hell (the bike computer lied), ended up in an herd of cows and only now have we found where we are.Oh, and the train is delayed. Really delayed. This day on the road is a story in itself. 1100

Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Absolutely, we do a 7-8 mile route most weeknights and those have their place at the table too. Glad you got out. 110
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Plagued by flies but didn’t stop for them. Got stung in the face by a wasp though, it got inside my glasses 🤦🏻♀️😭. No allergic reactions so far thankfully 🤞 110
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Thanks Zoe. We took it slow and steady yesterday, mostly Z2. My dad joined us for twenty or so miles so stops were longer and more relaxed. Aiming for 70 next time, I can imagine you were sore after that! 010
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Glad you’re ok, busy roads your way. Used to live in Welwyn many years ago. Hope there isn’t too much damage to you or the bike. 010
Laura Duthie @darkonelf.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Fred’s summer was everyone else’s winter. Dark, endless, at times painful and almost always endured by the hope of something different to come. No matter what the cost. (If you like summer and dislike swearing, this probably isn’t for you.) #reading lauraduthie.substack.com/p/freds-summ... 071
