Good point! I forgot about tracking. I’m going to set up a spreadsheet now! I’ve been using Zotero too and it’s been super helpful.

So my thesis writing semester just kicked off and I’m already behind 😅 anyone have any tips for managing time and staying sane? Full time job + full time Dad + Master’s in Historic Preservation thesis = perpetually tired 😮‍💨

@actualkatherine.bsky.social just you an email about a collaborative opportunity that you’ll hopefully be interested in!

I wonder if I’m related to him. My great grandfather is John Jones (b. 1893) from Kent county, living near Sassafras where the arson happened and farming for nearby landowners. He descended from two other John Jones (b. 1840 and 1870) who did the same…

Day one kicked off strong! Students explored hip hop and the cultural landscape around the site. This sets the stage for murals, music, prints, wood, and metal pieces rooted in place. We use hip hop as a model — sampling the past to create something new.

Hip Hop Time Capsule V underway — 1 week down! We hired nearly 50 high school & college interns ($1,200 each) to create murals, prints, metal/wood pieces, and music. They’re remixing labor history at Washington College’s future Innovation Plant (in Chestertown, MD) while building real-world skills.

Am currently paging through some stories from the Chesapeake Heartland project led by @dariusjohnson.bsky.social , for tour research (it makes sense in context, I swear), and finding these stories really meaningful 🖤 chesapeakeheartland.org/commodore-co...

Appreciate you for checking it out! Would love to hear how you’re thinking about it for tours. There should be more connections made between Baltimore and the Eastern Shore.

Even though I said I was tired yesterday, I’ve felt a calling to write a book for a long time. It’s gotten louder in the past few weeks.

Darius @dariusjohnson.bsky.social · 22/06/2025

I’m gonna take you up on that! I’m hoping to get over there sometime in July or August!

Great things are happening, but I could use one of those sabbaticals.

I just have to say—your boy is TIRED. And this feels like a reasonable space to express it.

The last month has been hectic…but yesterday I got to spend time with courthouse records so that was pretty cool.

Awesome - I’m grateful!! What’s your email? I’ll reach out!

Any recommendations for folks to follow on Substack that work in preservation, public history, or heritage work in general?

020

Darius @dariusjohnson.bsky.social · 23/02/2025

Thanks!! I’m diving into the realm of heritage tourism and can use additional perspective on policy implications. If this lines up with you, I’d be happy to talk!

He’s one of my inspirations and we’ve been in contact!

Thank you! The outline gets much more detailed but I kept it relatively broad for my request. Going to be a great year to dive into it!

Primarily U.S. as I’m trying to find members for my committee and they would be easier to connect with schedule-wise, but I’ve been looking international examples for sources and ad-hoc conversations.

I haven’t! Her work takes on a really interesting approach!

Darius @dariusjohnson.bsky.social · 15/02/2025

Alright, BlueSky, I need your help. I’m looking for people to talk to about my Master’s Thesis. Particularly anyone who’s a subject matter expert in regional policy/advocacy for heritage preservation or environmental conservation. Please help a brotha out!

Kendrick Lamar. Powerful performance. In addition to everything that people are saying about its brilliance—how about former Black Panther Samuel L. Jackson as Uncle Sam? 😤 #kendricklamar #SuperBowl

I updated my CV on my website, b/c apparently people were looking at it 😅 I may be just a wee tour guide, but I also have four (4) degrees in history, and I invite you to look at what else this tired goth ethnohistorian gets up to before assuming I don't know something 😅😅💙

No big deal, just up at 5am as my parental leave nears the end. Thinking about all the projects waiting for me when I’m back. (In addition to side projects 😅) Curious to know how others manage their productivity w/ multiple projects? Is there a #productivity starter pack yet?

Came back to this thread to share a write up from the 50th anniversary that Mary McLeod Bethune founded her school. My late grandmother’s handwriting in the margins offer commentary about Mary’s dream: “Perseverance” “Strength” “Not easily discouraged” “Not afraid to ask others to serve her dream”
