make no mistake: anyone telling you AI is “just like the dot com bubble” or “just like Amazon web services or uber” is beyond misinformed, verging into the realms of actually wanting to know less about the world. It means they have never actually looked at any of the numbers. Or they can’t count.

I may have ended a job interview shortly after the hiring manager said he thinks we are already "at ai singularity" yesterday. I'm so sick of this shit.

Art & Language are a facsimile of human consciousness, ai outputs are a (poor) facsimile of Art & Language. So, somehow, we are expected to believe ai has created a lossless compression algo for consciousness? Big ol doubt button

Like, in order to make the whole war with ai believable in the matrix, they had to specifically call out the ai started off solar powered. We can barely keep the power grid running due to severe weather, but somehow ai will be able to keep it running for itself to destroy humanity?

From the people I know and talk to at Target, UHG, Optum, Lifetime Fitness, Delta, Grafana, Obsidian, and a handful of others it's a very mixed bag Maybe MN tech is "behind", but its not like these are trivial systems

ime, varies greatly based on the coder in question. The ones typing up their hustle culture rants on linkedin love it. The ones being forced to use it while they quickly go insane from context switching and trying to keep it in check in a 20 year old accounting system, have other thoughts

You are literally wrong

Okay, so then their concept of sex doesn't align with how complex the human body actually is. Reducing trans woman to "male but not man" means they don't actually understand how sexual 'dimorphism' works in humans. So they are still wrong.

Daniel @daringstumbles.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
Because they are imaging a literal man playing on a womens team and not a woman who is trans. Their entire understanding of the question is shaped by their biases and (at best unintentional) bigotry. Pretty sure they dont want a trans guy 5 years on T playing on the women's team either.

Turns out using the hugeicons library makes for decent prototype assets

I think its really hard to say. The market consolidation it will cause, combined with continual shift to "near shore" talent, it very well could play out with a substantial shift away from US based software engineers, leaving people looking at massive paycuts and/or career pivots.

It's very much not "easy" to find another job for software engineers right now. Those against ai were the first to be let go during layoffs and some are still looking.

I think a lot of people use it similarly to the way people say Powderhorn meaning the powderhorn park neighborhood vs Powderhorn meaning greater powderhorn (which lyndale is actually in). At least, I get less grumpy about it when I think of it that way

Yep, I really have 0 need to read the dialog of two other engineers talking themselves in a circle before coming back to the proposed architecture. All that matters is that consensus was reached, which is not usually stated in a way a transcription will quickly communicate.

Ever peer of mine working for fortune 500 orgs that have gone all in on agentic development has echoed this exact sentiment. Its like being a middle manager for 12 interns not interested in learning and constant context switching. There is no joy in "software engineering" this way.

the basic reality is that this court has already destroyed the united states as a functional republic and none of the reforms necessary to rebuild it will survive the court as it currently exists any democrat not committed to expanding the court is not serious about fixing this country

All of my long term planning lately has been around how I can leave tech. Was laid off in Jan because my opinions on ai were well known. Job searching for orgs not all in on it has been difficult. If software engineering is now babysitting 8 different agents all day, it's just not a job I can do.

This is so, so well-articulated.
People call this friction "grunt work." Schwartz uses exactly that phrase, and he's right that LLMs can remove it. What he doesn't say, because he already has decades of hard-won intuition and doesn't need the grunt work anymore, is that for someone who doesn't yet have that intuition, the grunt work is the work. The boring parts and the important parts are tangled together in a way that you can't separate in advance. You don't know which afternoon of debugging was the one that taught you something fundamental about your data until three years later, when you're working on a completely different problem and the insight surfaces. Serendipity doesn't come from efficiency. It comes from spending time in the space where the problem lives, getting your hands dirty, making mistakes that nobody asked you to make and learning things nobody assigned you to learn.

Day 6: She is not remotely phased by freezing rain. She is doing a very good sit to let me put her collar on before going outside now. No wiggles and no trying to grab my hand with her teeth. This pup catches on so quickly. Took 5 min and about half a dozen treats to not be afraid of the umbrella

Day 5: She has figured out that "aha no bites" means playtime is over when you use your teeth on skin. She is getting more confident in the yard every time we go out. The overhead planes are scary. The sirens today were big scary, but no barking or crying.

Day 4: Got some wet puppy food to use with a lick mat. She needed it. Little girl keeps trying to nurse against everything and keeps spitting some dry kibbles back at me. No accidents in the house though except for day 1 so that is going excellent. She is being very good about asking to go out.

Day 3: Her front paws are getting some more white ticked coloring coming in. She has learned that things that roll are fun to chase, especially outside. She is less food hesitant than day 1, so starting to settle in. She also likes to demand bark at me when I tell her to stop biting my beard.

Day 2: Woke up at 6am to take her our to potty, she went right away and then needed 3 hours straight of playtime. She keeps trying to nurse the pillows before settling down. She did very well in her crate for an hour while we ate and washed dishes.

She and her littermates were found abandoned in Arkansas before coming to Minnesota. She very much has the cattle dog bark, and some very strong herding instincts for a puppy. I'm really looking forward to raising her and starting some canine sports eventually.

AI is really not good at coding either. AI generated code cannot be refactored easily, it has no intent, it just happens to run sometimes. Coding as a craft is by and large still a communication job where intent and shared understanding inform the approach. Good code is hard to write, easy to read.

We said goodbye to our doggo today. She was loyal, too smart for her own good, and opinionated in the way all cattle dogs are. I'm really gonna miss her.

If you can change your css, you can set the style on all code blocks for the overflow-wrap to break-word. (assuming you will never want the non wrapping). A pre around code element what makes a code block. So `pre code { overflow-wrap: break-word; }` should work. pre by default doesn't wrap.
