Random observations of Madrid: magnificent city, great infrastructure for public transportation, walking, biking, & an incredible amount of parks & pedestrian spaces. Groceries generally much cheaper than NS, but restaurants less so. Beer extraordinarily cheap in shops, expensive in restaurants

On this day 30yrs exactly - 1996 Hurricane Hortense was on approach to Nova Scotia making landfall east of Halifax later that night. Streets in the Halifax area were strewn with tree debris including large limbs. Up to 150 mm (6") of rain was also measured (below). #nswx

2026 is now a record-breaking Atlantic hurricane season. There has never been a later date in the season without a hurricane in the Atlantic Basin, and with none on the horizon this record will extend further. All thanks to El Nino.
