After a short search the most critical source I found is this student project from Connecticut College. It seems to provide some detail for much of your timeline. There is also an al jazzera article. openpress.digital.conncoll.edu/beingukraine...

Hey could you share some reporting on this? Maybe a timeline of events? I don’t know enough about Ukraine politics get any of these references.

The #compendium arrived today. Truly an arcane tome. Like something found in the inner sanctum of Dread Dormammu. Also pudding.

One of those great RPG essays that immediately makes sense and adds another facet to how I think about the hobby that’s obsessed with since childhood. An instant classic.

Just about finished with a large block of dwarfs. RPG fandom has slowly merged over to miniature wargame hobbying.

Played a round of 5 Leagues from the Borderlands today, a solo miniature skirmish rpg game by @nordicweaselgames.bsky.social My little boy participated. Great way to be a hobby nerd when mostly tied down by dadlife.

One time I ran a dungeon that I think is in this and it was rad.

Not a megadungeon at all. More of a one shot ish dungeon at a mega scale. Then there’s a huge wilderness area above. Looks really fun. Sholtis art and sensibility is great.

When I play with friends I’ve been playing a home brew based on Old DnD. Going to run a couple ADnD sessions with my students this spring. But mostly I play miniature games these days

Mythic Battles is great. It hasn’t hit the table in a la long while but really fun and challenging. And great models.

I keep saying Barrowmaze because I know it. I think all of them books in that series address a key issue with megadungeons which is getting stuck in them for too long. Flat modular structure is easy in/out for episodic play and allows a bigger campaign world to develop (in town etc)

I bought it. Like 8 years ago but I finally got Operation Completely Unfathomable by Jason Sholtis this year

Also Castle X is great. I would say similar prep to barrowmaze. Maybe a little more but still not much.

I know the feeling. Been stoked for dolmenwood for along time. My last campaign had elements of both actually.

Thinking about the factions, giving their leaders some names n stuff will definitely make Barrowmaze more fun. But you don’t need to do that to start.

Storm Kings Thunder was the high prep one. That campaigns a mess. It it fulfilled my bucket list of running a full on forgotten realms campaign. We had the poster map on the wall and the players enjoyed exploring.

Curse of Strahd is good. It the right size for a campaign setting. Just a little more stuff to do than the hero’s need to gain that xp to go back and brave castle. Lots of connection throughout. Very rewarding for our group.

In recent years I had a good run with a couple friends in a home brew campaign world that contained all kinds of modules, dolmenwood stuff, HighFell stuff, a Cubeworld module and finally a long excursion in Xyntallin until parenting killed the time slot.

I feel like I’ve had a couple. I ran a 5e combo of Curse of Strahd followed by Storm Kings Thunder with probably my best group ever.

I’ve done both myself. I think I was in a play test session once. And I’ve run it a time or two. I remember my players getting out and not wanting to return. Too scary and weird without much obvious treasure.

My kids juuust went down for the night 10pm pst and this is standard. It’s made it impossible to do an evening online rpg game. Model hobbying fits in and scratches the itch.

It’s been quite awhile now and I’m only interested in my own hacked house rules. Don’t really need new rules and this way I can include the pictures I like and not be bummed on the cover like Every edition since basic.

I used to play be pretty tuned in to the latest dnd rulesets. I was at gencon for the 2e release. I got sold on the developement phase of 4e because I was so frustrated with running 3.5. I ran 4e for a 1-13 campaign. Ran a series of 5e campaigns.

I really dig the oathmark rules because I can kinda hold them in my head all at once. But I do love the endless random shenanigans of Warhammer. I’ve actually only ever played TOW once and kill team once. And bunch of terrible intro to 40k games with the Recruit set.

@tomsonn2015.bsky.social I used to think of wargames as a poor cousin to RPGs but with life and kids etc I’ve come to really appreciate the hobby. I’m focused more on painting now than dnd.
