It would certainly make things easier for everyone who thinks you’re the same person already.

Genuinely; what?

Particularly since there is no “v” in the Irish language.

Ah thanks for that. Yeah, we’re really enjoying it. Although all the news stories have gone apocalyptic, which is weird.

Oof. That’s a really awkward double-up, especially if anyone runs over in Manchester and you miss the train.

Ah, delighted you enjoyed it. Yep, that’s a hell of a moment. Not fun when it happened, but lots of fun to deliver every night! Lovely to hear from you!

Every time, I think he’s going to fluff it. Start giggling, drop a word, something. Every time. And no, nails it every time.

I know. I think it was because Stargazing was presented in edited form on BBC US and they may have trimmed out the more substantial content. Or maybe he just hate Mancs?

Dara O Briain @daraobriain.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Nah, he was always weirdly cunty about Stargazing, and Brian. A pity, because I like his stuff.

I really enjoyed it; and found it interesting to see a British writer on a topic (comedy/free speech) that so much writing tends to over-state the importance of (IMO) and get quickly pompous about. Must dig it out.

Happy to make the change. Ed noticed immediately during the recording yesterday, to his credit.

It means that what you are doing is timely, or apt; the event or date referred to would be known to everyone. Like, if you posted a favourite Christmas song on Dec 25th, that would be “for the day that’s in it”, and not need other explanation.

For the night that’s in it, a photo of Princess Anne shielding her ears from the noise of the crowd when Katie Taylor won the Gold at London 2012.

There is no top level at all. And so there is no giant screen and they have to use the advertising hoarding for everything, which is just a narrow strip, obviously, so hilariously, they really go big on the player’s eyes.

Went to the Camp Nou tonight. I sorta knew it wasn’t finished but wasn’t aware it was THIS unfinished.

Okay. Haven’t done Lucky shot in aaaages… trying to even remember be what software I used to use on Mac to do it. Siril, I think. On a PC would you use Autostakkert?

Tech question for Astro people: can you stack eclipse photos, and is it “lucky shot” and then wavelets, like planetary, or added and aligned like deep space targets? Have a bunch of bracketed shots, and want to experiment…

While all eclipses are fun, this one will be relatively late in the day and low in the sky, and totality will be only 1’30”. Some amazing ones coming up tho: 6’22” of totality over Luxor next August, and 3 mins over Sydney in 2028. If you’d me and Brian to host that one, I think we’d be delighted.

It certainly did in 2015 when we did three days of Stargazing Live around the eclipse including live coverage of Totality from a plane looping over the Faroe Islands. Plus, we were in Jodrell. Different times, baby.

It remains genuinely hilarious that people think this quote is WB Yeats. This is on the wall in Kilkenny Design in Dublin, by the way. Bit of a lurch in tone from "And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?"

Ross literally the told me story in the Pleasance courtyard, giddily, and now I have to question the nature of memory every time I hear it. Plus, I probably tightened it up a bit myself, retelling it there…

Nicholas was ashen-faced, and said, “Oh my. I have known Richard for 40 years and he never mentioned that” Double hit: Nicholas thought briers was on a crack AND, briefly, Noble thought Parsons was an old friend of Richard Pryor.

Dara O Briain @daraobriain.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
Ha! Even he gets it wrong! Ross was explaining the lore of Blazing Saddles to Nicholas, because he chose it as favourite comedy movie for an Edinburgh show. Amidst this, he added, “of course, Richard Pryor was supposed to be in it, but had just set fire to his hair, while freebasing cocaine…” and…

Having heard this, literally on the day, it’s so funny to watch this story mutate over the years. How did it become a Barry Cryer story? Barry didn’t feature in the actual event at all!

Went to see @operationmincemeat.bsky.social last night and, this is pretty old news, but it was amazing. Brilliantly performed as well. Plus, what a mad theatre the Fortune is… All the parts of an normal Edwardian theatre, squeezed into a tiny footprint.
