I regret this. It wasn’t even funny. Turns out the bosses where Zantetsuken can actually do anything have way too many cards, especially by the time you’re leveled high enough to have it and have the card stockpile to use it, and it does basically no damage as the cherry on top.

I remember thinking he was a loser as a kid until he walled me for hours because the game never ensured I’d learned how to block, or do much of anything besides mash lol.

Also I just wasted 13 minutes of my life decking out Larxene 2 in ReCoM with Zantetsuken, then chasing her around landing one hit at a time to finish her off. Apparently bosses can move during hitstun when trying to reload, fun! I ain’t uploading that shit, god awful.

Ok I didn’t want to say more specifics lol, I just couldn’t remember exactly when what you mentioned happens. Didn’t even want to ask if you’d fought Demyx yet. The disrobe > summon Keyblade combo with the music is so peak, and the way you can hear his fist clenching lmao.

He’s got a few moments throughout the game for sure lol. Even at the very beginning when he saves SDG from the Nobodies.

It’s always funny watching people play any sort of game where gaining levels is an expected part of the gameplay, then go out of their way to avoid fights as much as possible, and get mad when required fights are too tough. Like yeah man, you’re severely under-leveled and under-equipped.

Hell I’m pretty sure standard enemies can’t even play anything higher than a 6, and can’t play 0s, yet I’ve had Ars Acanum Sleights and 7+ higher cards get broken by enemies that I KNOW can’t play anything higher, and then their stupid little 4 or whatever shows up. Like wow ok.

Either Chain of Memories cheats and just sometimes lets your cards get broken by lesser value cards (not 0s) or it has an issue with communicating what actually caused the break. Like I play my 8 Elixir and then watch a 7 take its place and cause a break, and I think that’s a little ridiculous.

Maybe some options are rather unbalanced, but that’s just not the same thing as switching the game to easy or hard mode. They didn’t design some options to be easy mode and others not, like there’s no real intent and that was never the point.

One of the difficulty discourse arguments that I always find really dumb is that something like a Souls game already has difficulty selection via summoning and other options. That’s not how that works. Someone else using a different build isn’t also playing on a different difficulty.

It’ll never not be funny how Palworld ended up being the most popular of that genre simply by adding Pokemon. The Venn Diagram of people playing it who also made hating Pokemon their entire personality was also nearly one circle.

Before I finish this Chain of Memories playthrough, I’m going to deck out a boss with Zantetsuken. Is it more effective than spamming basically any other Sleight? No, but it’s funny. Now, if only that fuckass Moogle would give me 9s and 0s.

Last I played this game was in college and I remember like, actually figuring out a system to navigate this fuckass level because I knew it was coming and didn’t want to get lost. I just wanted to see if there was any method to the madness, but I still got lost anyway lmao.

Everything being hyper personalized anymore via algorithms and AI is a big issue. People expect everything to cater to them specifically and have lost the ability to fathom that something just isn’t to their taste. Either it’s for them or shouldn’t be, period.

When I did this, my friend group of over a decade just harassed me until I also called them out on that, then they abandoned me. Not saying I shouldn’t have or that I regret it, just that some guys probably know they’ll get ostracized and would rather avoid that.

And running after a nice card pick up or Moogle Points sounds a lot less grating than having to play fetch just for XP. The former feels like a nice bonus, a carrot on a stick, the latter is a given.

Now mob fights help expand your deck instead of only giving linear stat boosts/sleights, and bosses give bigger level bonuses to help avoid level grinding. One of the game’s biggest hurdles is lacking good/plentiful cards, which makes combat feel shitty and repetitive.

Honestly I feel like Chain of Memories could be greatly improved with a few small tweaks. Just give XP on kill normally and at a slight reduction, have enemies sometimes drop cards and Moogle Points (replaces chasing orbs), and increase boss XP a smidge.

The one defense I’ll give to that Wolverine game, given how much difficulty discourse I’ve seen over the years, is that the Gamers brought every bit of patronizing hand-holding onto themselves. I’m surprised it doesn’t have a skip feature honestly.

Always been one of my “guilty pleasures” for lack of better term. Like I don’t think the game is great by most standards, but I always have fun with it. Also some of the criticisms most people throw at it are things regurgitated despite having never played it or ever like, watched it.

Sonic Blade is so strong in ReCoM. I got lucky with 3 Blizzard cards before leaving Traverse Town and use that to blast through most mob fights lol.

I’m gonna have so much time to blast through Chain of Memories while recovering from a minor dental surgery that still putting me out of work most of the week, yay! Turns out having prior knowledge of bosses to fucking nuke them makes the game way more fun (the rest is still like, whatever).

See but now they’re mad about a hot latina woman being in a game even though usually the complaint is that they can’t goon to everything vaguely girl-shaped.

I’m guilty of using the same terminology because I’m forced to use the language I’m given, but it makes talking about games such a chore sometimes. I think genres should be more broad instead of trying to be specific.

They’re just action games that focus on combat, with really good combat, so it’s weird when people try to use these labels to force comparison, or even an excuse to avoid it. Like oh, that one is an “Action/RPG” so it being 90% combat focused but having bad combat doesn’t count.
