This recolor of The Killing Joke from a Twitter user shows a lot of what I was talking about in my Conan recoloring vid. More dedication to realism in the new one renders it way less impactful. They called it “sauceless” and I agree.

It was owned by this grizzled, angry dude named Bruce who couldn’t care less about the comic part of his shop. A guy named Andrew who looked like a rail-thin version of Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy would sell me X-Men comics in the back half.

@danyergs.bsky.social wasn't wrong. Very sad book. Bleak even. Wonderfully written though. Daniel Clowes has a way of building characters that are really believable pieces of shit! Also, the nods to the Golden Age of Comics are on nearly every page. Highly recommend.

I finished Dark Crusade tonight, which means I’ve now read every last shred of Kane narrative written by Karl Edward Wagner. What a fantastic series- right up there with Conan and Jirel for me.
