I present, my husband's grandmother's stuffing recipe, beloved by all the brothers, which I have, for reasons unknown (I guess because I married the eldest??) become the keeper of. The "dry bread cubes" should be seasoned stuffing mix. The apples are not, IMHO, optional.

Mom's Stuffing Recipe

1lb mild pork sausage
1/2 cup chopped onions
1 cup chopped celery
7 cups dry bread cubes
2 chopped apples, optional
1/2 cup chicken broth or milk
1 can cream of mushroom soup (condensed)

Pan fry sausage, drain excess drippings (keep them for later in the recipe). Add sausage, apples, onion, and celery back to pan, cook until vegetables soften. In separate pan, mix drippings with 3 cups bread cubes. Cook until cubes become light brown in color.
In small saucepan, mix soup and broth and cook until heated, not boiling, and smooth.
Add remaining 4 cups bread cubes, combining all 3 mixtures together in large bowl.
Stuff turkey or bake as desired.

Listened to Ezra Klein’s interview w/Jake Tapper. I initially had a knee-jerk resistance to the discourse as the world burns currently, but it did interrogate my priors. Jake sounded genuinely mad at the Dem Party Leaders for lying to us. Not voting Republican anytime soon, but we need to do better.

Anyone else feel like 2001: A Space Odyssey should have yielded more famous actors from the cast? Maybe it was on purpose, but you sort of wanna see someone like the actor who played Wormtongue/Doc from Deadwood showing up as a very young man in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Something like that…

Took 8- and 10-year-old sons to a sports bar yesterday to watch the Bears game. Despite the outcome, we had the best time. I then realized that for Gen X a sports bar with 20 televisions and beer on draft will someday be “dad will like it here” kind of venue. Felt cutting edge c. 2000, now VFW hall.
