Nyt article:
WASHINGTON, Oct. 19-Color television was postponed indefinitely today because of materials scarcities resulting from the defense mobilization effort. Charles E. Wilson, Defense Mobilizer, asked the Columbia Broadcasting System to suspend plans for mass production of color television receivers. In New York, C. B. S. announced that it would comply. It also said it would drop its color video broadcasts because there would not be enough color receivers in the hands of the public to warrant such broadcasts.

It may interest you to know that in 1969 the Harvard Lampoon published their own parody of Tolkien, titled - you guessed it- "Bored of the Rings" My mom (a huge Tolkien fan) bought a copy for herself. Needless to say, it was outrageously inappropriate for a 9-year-old boy. Naturally I ate it up.

Thanks for posting Will. LOST IN SPACE holds a very special place in my heart. I was only 5 years old, but my parents let me stay up to watch it every week. This was my introduction to the music of John Williams, who landed the gig thanks to his close friend Lionel Newman. A true milestone for me.

In the 1930s, Scott led the Raymond Scott Quintette (actually, a sextet, but he thought "Quintette" sounded better!) The percussionist/drummer for the band was Johnny Williams - father of film composer John Williams. Yet another connection between Scott and film music. #filmsky #musicsky #botd

Raymond Scott, #BOTD in 1908, was a fascinating guy. He invented some of the earliest electronic instruments, collaborated with Jim Henson and the Muppets (!), and with Berry Gordy of Motown fame. In 1969, Gordy bought an "Electronium" from Scott (like the one pictured). #filmsky #musicsky
