Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 30/01/2026Saw these guys opening for Death To All last year and was pleasantly surprised. Not usually my style of music but they put on a great show. 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 30/01/2026Yesterday, I spent maybe 45 minutes scrubbing through an MCR song so I could prepare a lead sheet for my cover band. Today, I am getting constant ads for various music training services like Yousician and Ultimate Guitar. These algorithms are absolutely insane. Net neutrality needs to return 030
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 29/01/2026Skipped Around the Fur because I’ve heard it a hundred times and know I love that one. Currently working through White Pony and also liking this one. Quite a bit more vocally experimental than the previous two, though the riffs aren’t as memorable to me as Around the Fur. 030
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 29/01/2026As a person who passively enjoys Deftones, I’m educating myself and listening through their discography over the next day or two. Glad they were able to survive past Adrenaline lmao. The guitar tone sounds like they plugged the head into a PA speaker and mic’d it up in a shower stall. 120
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 29/01/2026I finally got myself (mostly) off Facebook and will be dropping my random funnies and death metalling here 080
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 28/10/2025Fun fact: Wal-Mart has about 2.1 million employees. If you took that $400 billion and split it evenly between all 2.1 million employees as a one-time lump sum… Each employee gets over $190,000. 060
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 24/01/2025Every song has a similar riff style but some other radically different element on top (mostly vocals, but one song has brass too). Really interesting seeing how the same band sounds wildly different with different vocal production on each song. #metalsky #deathmetalsky 030

Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 23/01/2025FINALLY beat Promised Consort Radhan the other day. Even after getting nerfed (as he should have been—some of those attacks were straight up impossible to counter), he’s still a top 2 hardest boss I’ve ever dealt with. Malenia still might surpass him in difficulty, but they’re very VERY close. 140
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 22/01/2025Bummer to not have Mat in Rhuidean, but this honestly makes sense from a condensation standpoint. You could easily fold a lot of Tanchico and Ebou Dar together, wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what they do. 000
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 22/01/2025Me: *visits any general guitar themed group/subreddit/page* Literally every post: "New guitar day!" *it's the most generic strat or strat clone you've ever seen* Everyone in the comments: "GORGEOUS. NEVER SEEN ANYTHING SO STUNNING. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER GUITAR." 260
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 21/01/2025Can confirm it’s very good. Virtually zero blood or gore but extremely tense, especially in the last half hour or so. 020
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 21/01/2025Elon Musk is out here doing all the things conservatives accused George Soros of doing for decades, and he’s heiling Hitler too! Love this. Love that they’re not even trying to be subtle anymore. Love how easy this makes it for me to cut out the people who aren’t horrified by what they’re seeing. 020
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 21/01/2025Meshuggah and Animals as Leaders are probably the two most influential bands on the metal of the last ~20 years. Am I forgetting any other huge ones? 020

Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 02/12/2024BlueSky explicitly stating they won’t suppress links is already a huge win for artists of all kinds. Virtually every other platform suppresses everyone and everything unless you give them money. Looking forward to what could be many years of fun with #MetalSky #DeathMetalSky #ProgMetalSky 0190
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Anybody interested in a sadboi dream theater cover? I released one with my solo project earlier this year. Check it out! #MetalSky #ProgMetalSky #ProgressiveMetalSky #DreamTheater 031
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 29/11/2024He’s been my #1 inspiration as a bassist ever since I saw the omnipresent perception music video a decade ago. Absolute monster of a player 010
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 28/11/2024Appreciate it! I’m learning by ear too haha, the only tab I’ve found for this song is extremely inaccurate. Extremely difficult for sure, takes a lot of work (and plenty more to come) 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 28/11/2024So glad it’s on Tubi now. I bought it on Amazon earlier in the year thinking it would never end up on streaming, being a somewhat obscure foreign language film. 010
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 28/11/2024Practicing a little more of Solus by First Fragment. This song is INSANELY difficult to play, but I’m having a blast learning it. Currently at 90% speed. Still have some cleaning up to do, but it’ll get there soon. 😁 #MetalSky #DeathMetalSky #Bass #FirstFragment #BassPlayer #Bassist #BassSky 3181

Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 22/11/2024It’s such a great album. By far one of my favorites of that genre. I usually have a hard time getting into super crazy tech death, but they managed to make it so catchy while also being RIDICULOUSLY technical 010
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 22/11/2024Any fans of First Fragment here on #MetalSky #DeathMetalSky ? Currently attempting to transcribe Solus by ear and man it is HARD as hell haha Only at 75% speed currently and even this gave me a huge blister. Haven’t had to do this much tapping since learning Beyond Creation lines a decade ago 3130

Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 20/11/2024The starter pack thing is probably my favorite part of BlueSky so far. With two or three button taps I all of a sudden have access to almost 500 people with interest in both death metal and Wheel of Time (aka my two personality traits). 1190
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 19/11/2024I gave up Twitter many years ago when it first started becoming a cesspool, so it feels great to be able to actually participate in the conversation over here. So happy a Twitter killer os finally taking off 040
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 19/11/2024Crazy that today is the 3-year anniversary of #TheWheelOfTime on Amazon. These books have been about 40% of my personality (the remaining parts being 40% bass and 20% stress about gigs and projects), and the show is a nonstop focus of mine. Season 3 announcement may be imminent, hype! #WoTskies 0221

Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/2024Congrats on making it to the end of this extremely long thread. I’m sure y’all will have thoughts lmao, especially on that top 3. 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/202401. Living Things (3/3) …from the nostalgia of Lost in the Echo to the frantic anger of Victimized to the bittersweetness of Roads Untravelled). This album is banger after banger, and it kills me that people won’t give it a chance. Standout Tracks: Lost in the Echo, Castle of Glass, Powerless 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/202401. Living Things (2/3) Honestly, even calling it an electropop album does a disservice to how wonderful a blend of styles it is. Every song is catchy, the lyrics are their best ever. The songs are a lot darker and heavier than people give them credit for, and they greatly in emotional range… 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/202401. Living Things (1/3) By far the most controversial placement on this list I’m sure, but I stand by it 100%. Living Things is a perfect album from start to finish just like Hybrid Theory and Meteora, but y’all are haters that won’t give it a chance because it’s one of their electropop albums. 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/202402. Meteora Meteora is everything great about Hybrid Theory, refined it, then kicked it into overdrive. I listened to this one for the first time in a while yesterday and was blown away all over again by how it is quite literally banger after banger. Not a single song that even borders on weak. 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/202403. Hybrid Theory (2/2) This is the album that started it all for LP and it’s the album that most people know and love best. It’s incredible, no doubt about it. Standout Tracks: Pushing Me Away, Papercut, High Voltage 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/202403. Hybrid Theory (1/2) *gasp* Hybrid Theory not number 1??? Crucify this man! For real though, all of the top 3 are 10/10 albums, I just don’t want to give them a three-way tie. Hybrid Theory is a perfect album, and there’s really not much else I feel like I can add to the conversation. 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/202404. The Hunting Party This is BY FAR the most underrated album in LP’s discography, and life of me, I can’t understand why it isn’t talked about. Even if you dislike “new LP,” you owe it to yourself to at least check out this one, because it has everything people loved about the first two albums. 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/202405. Minutes to Midnight This is the album that lost a lot of people. It’s a collection of ballads, plus two high-energy hard rock tracks in Bleed it Out and Given Up. If you’re like me and are a sucker for a catchy ballad, this album will work for you, but it otherwise will probably fall flat. 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/202406. A Thousand Suns This is a controversial placement, since this album is so misunderstood. It’s LP’s Dark Side of the Moon, a progressive rock album designed to be listened as a single piece. The songs are very strong all around, though there are a lot of filler tracks that only work in context. 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/202407. From Zero Big asterisk next to this one because it’s brand new and I do think it’s gonna grow on me. I like Emily’s clean singing but don’t like her screaming at all. The singles are definitely the strongest tracks on the album, which is a bummer. The last three are also solid songs. 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/202408. One More Light Starting off at the bottom is an album I still think is decent. The biggest issue is it doesn’t have much flow or cohesion. You could play any individual song and have a decent time, but listen straight through and it feels like it goes nowhere. 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/2024Note: I have chosen not to include Reanimation or Recharged in the ranking, as they’re remix albums. 110
Dan Saillant @dansaillant.bsky.social · 15/11/2024Now that their comeback album From Zero is out, this felt like a good time to post my album ranking (as if anybody cares lol, dead internet is real). This will definitely be controversial, but these are my genuine thoughts and I will not be convinced otherwise lol. 110
