The talk is about the people I met in Austin who know kindness and sincerity. It's about the people I met in Portugal who dream without hesitation. It's about the people in the Netherlands who come from all over because they believe in the possibility of a better University.

Tomorrow we do it again: bring people together, collectivize, create shared knowledge and practices, move things forward. It's the UDCC Forum.
Flyer for the 3rd meeting of the UDCC Forum featuring artwork from Anton Labberton entited "Meer aan de voet een berg." The flyer states that the special session of the event is entited "Collaboratively Editing a New Research Data Management Policy Framework" and is led by Pui-Kei Fung and Coosje Veldkamp.

A Manifesto for Community Management at Research and Knowledge Organisations I got together with some friends across NL and wrote this a couple years ago. It remains a piece of writing that I think is quite nice and true. doi.org/10.53962/k06...
A single sheet document that states: "Research and Knowledge Organisations are impactful primarily through their capacity to bring people together. Therefore, Community is crucial to the generative function and success of Research and Knowledge Organisations. And so, Community formation and maintenance, as undertaken by Community Managers, is a consequential form of labour within Research and Knowledge Organisations.

Herein we set out to define Community in the context of Research and Knowledge Institutions, identify the values and practices we promote in people undertaking the work of Community Management, and
surface key outcomes in the development of Community."

The other thing I get to do, which continues the work I started back in Austin, is explore how events bring about initiatives, which in turn bring about events, and so on in a generative progression. How we start this at a small-scale is in the write-up above and here is what builds from that forum
A retro-futuristically designed flyer inviting participants to join DISC, Data Infrastructure Storage Collective. The flyer's text reads: "The prevalence of preserved, FAIR, open, or transportable data is increasingly significant for all research organisations. Our management systems must meet evolving needs. How might we better understand and utilise research data storage infrastructure at Utrecht University? The Data Infrastructure Storage Collective (DISC) convenes to create a framework to advise on research data storage solutions throughout Utrecht University. Following an agenda-setting meeting, DISC begins meeting once every two weeks for a four month period starting in January. Collaborate to build modular decision frameworks on research data storage. All are welcome. Contact Rene Adelerhof or the UDCC Support Team to join in."

In 2011, a uniquely beautiful cloud appeared over Central Texas. For awhile, everyone in Austin went online to share photos & stories about this cloud. Folks then made websites to collect them. What I'm saying is there are moments where we know how to use the internet, and I hope we are in one now.
A photo of the anvil cloud that flew over Central Texas on April 26, 2011. The cloud is notably large, multi-textured, and unique in shape.
