Big Bird bump during the 11 pm and 12 am hours last night halifax-bird-activity.exe.xyz (I've seen more drivers doing full-on video calls while driving lately, drivers are out of control and no one is doing anything about it)
A chart of the last 24h of Bird trip starts in Halifax showing a big bump for bikes and scooters in the 11 pm and 12 am hours

We have acquired unspeakable powers. Come join us in putting them to good use Sunday! hfx.bike/party
A cargo bike in the foreground has an orange and black street closed signs on it back. Behind it, a woman stands next to a cargo trike with supports for the signs in its bucket. The picture was taken at a Halifax works yard, and there is a salt dome in the background.

For some reason there are newly-planted trees on Bayers Rd just east of the rail bridge. What. (there should be an extension of the MUP there to either a MUP to replace the bridge sidewalk or a new AT bridge)
The view from the sidewalk on Bayers Rd / Bi-Hi heading east. The sidewalk curves around. Just ahead to the right of it there are two new trees.

Nice to see this going in to make it easier for folks walking and rolling to get into the Almon Shoppers parking lot. The whole Richmond Yards area needs more pedestrian friendly changes, such as a mid block crossing for Shoppers.

I got a new sign
A printed sign on the back of my bike that says “bike good mayor bad.” My bike is parked in front of Halifax city hall which is in the background.

I got some stickers as part of this order. They are a bit different from the bikes good mayor bad ones @stmack.bsky.social made. I can get you one or more!

Found the first one!!!
A piece of paper with cold brew instructions has a “bike good mayor bad” stamp on it. It’s held onto a metal fridge surface with a San Diego magnet that has a bicycle on it.

Got it! Here's the finished one and the "how did you get here" one again from early June.
The completed "How far did you travel to get to the market" survey showing mostly under 10 km.The completed "how did you get to the market" survey showing a lot of dots for "walking," a lot for "car," and some for bus, bike, and ferry.

Also saw the beginnings of the Bayers Rd construction closure. Too many cars! And too many drivers using the bus lanes.

Avoid the Macdonald bridge (if driving) I guess? Took me the same 11 minutes to get from Wyse and Boland to home as it always does. 🚲

Hauling stuff is fun! We thrifted a table (in the bucket) and chairs (on the back of my bike) for the deck. A delightful hot summer evening #BikeHfx outing.

Had a very good time at the Propeller last Thursday of the month jazz jam! (I played Footprints, Beatrice, and Nardis)
Three people are standing with guitar, electric bass, and trombone. A drum kit and drummer are tucked in behind. I’m playing bass and wearing a mask.

A few days ago I tweaked my Halifax Bird (scooter/ebike) out-of-bounds parking map to try and deduce if a vehicle has stayed in the same place, and for how long Saw this example today and found it on the map! It's been there at least 2 days, 9 hours

The Metro station nearest my hotel was right under the Sagrada Familia so it was pretty wild being very tired and coming up from below ground to this. Pretty remarkable and was cool to get inside as part of a tour while I was there.

I was at the airport for departure pretty early and it has some nice terraces (even if some are shared with smokers). If I had known the "EU exit" point of no return was so soon I would have spent more time outside.

I also only took public transit (if Aerobus for part of my way into the city centre is included). Metro was packed but very frequent and pleasant. The lit up route maps showing past/upcoming/current/future stations were helpful. No doors between cars made for neat effects during turns.

Saw these “fiets tellers” (bicycle counters) in Amsterdam, like this one in Rembrandtpark. They make it very clear it’s not a camera. We have counters in Halifax, too! Take that, “we are not Amsterdam.”
