I'm still recommending Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series on a regular basis. Sabriel is an incredible introduction to the world and magic system. But the Lirael/Abhorsen story is unputdownable from start to end.

This technology isn't new, but I've only recently learned that its really easy to get your save data from original hardware and transfer it to your emulators. I just got my RE4 Gamecube saves and picked them up on my phone, which can just about play it.
