In this cross-sectional study of travelers’ diarrhea antimicrobial resistance patterns, there was marked variability of nonsusceptibility to 2 major classes of antibiotics commonly used for treating travelers’ diarrhea among global regions. ja.ma/44CZGi2
World maps show antibiotic resistance. Top: Fluoroquinolones, purple hues indicate resistance, strongest in Asia and Africa. Bottom: Macrolides, yellow hues indicate resistance, prevalent in Asia. Bar graph compares resistance; Fluoroquinolones higher than Macrolides.

Honored to receive the Ashford medal from @astmh.bsky.social. Much credit goes to my mentors, collaborators, colleagues, and our team @utah.edu @uofuhealth.bsky.social @uofumandi.bsky.social. Even more gratifying was seeing my trainees recognized for their work earlier in the day. #GlobalHealth.

Interviews show that parents seek clinical care for children with diarrhea for reassurance, understanding of symptoms, and appropriate treatment, while clinicians are skeptical about diagnostics' value but may use them to reassure parents. ja.ma/46bGpnt
Flowchart outlining parents' motivations for seeking care versus clinicians' management of parents' expectations for diagnostics. Tension arises regarding diagnostic testing's helpfulness for disease etiology, informed treatment, and reassurance.
