Back in March, I posted about changing my banner to a photo of Mississauga’s skyline I’d found online. Now I get to replace it with my own render of how downtown could grow. Pretty proud to have something I made representing the city I live in.

A subway to Square One? I emailed City staff for the old studies and put the maps, history and three 3D route sketches on one page so others don’t have to. Independent visualisations, not approved routes. futuremississauga.com/subway.html

It covers places like Downtown, Port Credit, Lakeview and Cooksville, with the Hurontario LRT, GO lines and Transitway included. On the website, you can browse the pictures, compare today’s city with a possible future and explore the model in 3D. Let me know what you think!

Over a few months, I learned Blender from scratch and put this together using existing models, City data and public development plans. AI mildly helped with the harder modelling and website work. Stephen Velasco’s Toronto visualisations helped inspire it too.

futuremississauga.com I made a website where you can explore a 3D model of what Mississauga could look like in the future. I’ve been following the city’s development and transit projects for a while, and wanted to see how all those individual proposals would look together.

I absolutely love it, but it does have some limits, to be fair. Proposed buildings aren’t guaranteed to happen, some forms are schematic, and parts of Lakeview still don't have good enough reports for me to make accurate models. I made sure to note down all parts that I was uncertain about.

The result is Future Mississauga: skyline pictures, neighbourhood comparisons and an interactive 3D model covering Downtown, Port Credit, Lakeview, Clarkson and more. It also includes the Hurontario LRT, GO corridors and Transitway.

Once I had the main model and structure in place, I used AI to help with some of the harder parts: fixing bugs, repairing geometry, converting models and writing Blender rendering scripts. I directed the project, designed nearly all the models and refined the results for nearly six months.

Inspired by Stephen Velasco's models of future growth for Toronto, I was inspired to try something similar for Mississauga. Earlier this year, I started exploring how to make that happen. Over the past few months, I learned Blender from scratch and built most of the project myself.

I taught myself Blender and spent the last 6 months modelling what Mississauga is going to look like. Towers, transit, the whole downtown. It’s live and you can click around it: futuremississauga.ca 🧵

CIRE Exam Prep

One example of "exactly right": I ran the question bank through a stats check. The correct answer was the longest option 72% of the time. That means you could score well without even reading the questions. I rerouted the distractors across 98 questions and brought it down to 35%.

Daniel Sultan @danielsultan.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
It took three weeks. I sketched the layout on paper, built a big chunk of the UI and CSS by hand, then used AI for the rest. After that, a week and a half in GitHub tweaking it until it was exactly right.

Daniel Sultan @danielsultan.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
So I built the course I wished existed. It starts at "What is investing" and builds all the way up to the CIRE rule book over 69 lessons. Then it drills you: spaced repetition, flashcards, a 100-question bank, a timed speed round like Kahoot, and full mock exams. A to Z.

First, why I bothered. I'm 18 and I work in financial sales. To advance in this industry in Canada, you need the CIRE. The official prep? Three PDFs that assume you already understand the fundamentals. If you don't, tough luck. There's no way in.

Next up: color-coded shapes for a second memory dimension, a laser-cut storage case, printed score sheets like ELO in chess, and a timer mechanic. That's Synapse.

Switched from pass/fail to percentage scoring because testers said it was more motivating. Added 15 to 30 second memorization windows because unlimited time made it too easy. Photo verification killed every argument about the answer.

Daniel Sultan @danielsultan.bsky.social · 02/06/2026
Testing on classmates: 2x2: Too easy, but perfect as a tutorial. 3x3: 70 to 90% accuracy. 4x4: Dropped to 50 to 70%. 5x5: Nobody got 100% first try. Range was 40 to 65%.

Daniel Sultan @danielsultan.bsky.social · 02/06/2026
Then I built it by hand. Foam board base, white cardstock grid drawn with a mechanical pencil, red cardstock frame, masking tape on the corners. Gray felt hexagons glued into each cell so tiles grip instead of sliding around. Total cost: basically nothing. Everything came from a dollar store.
100
Daniel Sultan @danielsultan.bsky.social · 02/06/2026
After the sketches I designed it digitally. Vector wireframes of the grid, then tile slots layered in row by row, then a full render with a dark blue board, white grid overlay, and recessed cells with depth. Pencil sketch to vector to render. Caught spacing issues early before using real materials.

Daniel Sultan @danielsultan.bsky.social · 02/06/2026
Four grid sizes let the game scale from tutorial to something your brain genuinely can't hold. Five shape groups because they're all instantly recognizable. Any more and you start identifying shapes instead of memorizing positions.

Daniel Sultan @danielsultan.bsky.social · 02/06/2026
Before touching any materials I filled pages with sketches. Hinged tiles vs removable was the first call. Hinged ones were fragile and limited what you could do. Removable tiles can be shuffled, swapped, and replaced. Easy.
100
Daniel Sultan @danielsultan.bsky.social · 02/06/2026
I called it Synapse because in biology, a synapse is the gap between nerve cells where signals fire to form memories. Every correct tile is a connection.
100
Daniel Sultan @danielsultan.bsky.social · 02/06/2026
Your working memory holds about 5 to 9 items at a time. And actively recalling something strengthens memory way more than just staring at it. Two players. The Designer places shape tiles in a pattern. The Challenger memorizes it, the board gets cleared, and they rebuild it from memory.

Daniel Sultan @danielsultan.bsky.social · 02/06/2026
I wanted to build a game. Not an app. A physical, screen-free brain game that trains your memory. Most brain games are just apps that add more screen time. I wanted the opposite. So I made Synapse. 🧵

The longer we wait, the more expensive it gets. Just look at how much the Ontario Line ballooned in cost because we delayed for so long. If you want, feel free to check out the original discussion over on r/TTC. reddit.com/r/TTC/comments/1toouo2/the_case_for_line_4s_best_possible_extension

This isn’t a fantasy map. It combines two routes Metrolinx actually studied, so the engineering groundwork already exists. If you want to see this become a reality and live in Ontario, pressure your MPP. Pressure Metrolinx. Pressure Doug Ford.

I think the best option would be combining Concepts 2A and 3: extend the line west to connect with the rest of Line 1, and east to bring rapid transit across Scarborough. I merged the two maps using AI, and here’s what it looks like.
A transit map of Toronto showing my proposed subway extension running east-west along Sheppard Avenue. The line spans from Sheppard West station in the west to Sheppard/Morningside in the east.

Concept 3 extends rapid transit further into Scarborough, but neglects the western connection to Line 1.

Concept 2A turns the stubway into a real network, but leaves much of east-Scarborough underserved.

A couple years ago, Metrolinx studied four options for extending Line 4, the city’s northern subway beneath Sheppard Avenue. Each concept solves part of the problem but creates new gaps for TTC connections. blogto.com/city/2024/06/expansion-toronto-subway-line-ttc

As a refresher, Metrolinx is Ontario’s regional transit agency. Think of it as the Greater Toronto Area’s version of BART, WMATA, or the CTA.

The ION LRT collision video’s been shared by u/bob_mcbob. Truck tried pulling an illegal U-turn right in front of the LRT at King & Agnes, where U-turns are explicitly banned. Driver got charged with careless driving, luckily, although he near definitely won’t be billed for repair costs.
