Thats impossible. It’s like saying you want all ballparks to have the same dimensions & same weather.

If it encourages owners to reinvest into the talent, I’m all for it.

100% agreed on the salary floor. Salary floor > salary cap for competitive balance

Interesting point. Tanking is a development strategy, right? Sometimes it works (Astros), sometimes it doesn’t (orioles). Salary cap is restricting what can be spent on employees. It isn’t a strategy. Is that agreed?

If you’re open to an idea, would you support a salary floor that forced owners to spend a minimum? Brewers’ development program is arguably the best. Would forcing Attanasio (billionaire) to spend $175mm help them more, or would limiting what the Mets/dodgers could spend help the brewers more?

That speaks more to Angels ownership & front office. Angels & Pirates … Browns & Cardinals… Kings & Nets … every league has those perennial franchises regardless of spending or salary caps or etc

Mets & Blue Jays have 2/4 biggest payrolls, but aren’t making the playoffs. If you’re open, would you be more in favor of a salary floor that forces owners to spend a minimum? If the Rays or Guardians or A’s had to spend $100mm every year, would that help them be more competitive?

For sure! What do we know ;) I’d be in favor of a salary floor so owners are forced to spend (imagine if the brewers or A’s or rays had to spend $100mm), more than a cap that limits what a player can earn. But owners would never agree to a floor without a cap.

I’m not saying there isn’t a correlation between spending money on proven talent & winning - of course there is! I’m stating a salary cap is to help owners reduce operating costs by restricting/limiting player’s salaries. The purpose of a salary cap isn’t league balance, nor does it mean balance.

53% of nba teams make the playoffs every year. 50% in the nhl. 43% in the nfl. They have salary caps… 40% in mlb. No salary cap. Through raw statistics & osmosis alone, all leagues with a salary cap will have more playoff team turnover - without a salary cap having anything to do with it ;)

Daniel Stern @danielstern.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
And after the cap? Patriots, Chiefs, etc. Winning is tied more to ownership & front office than a cap. Salary cap does not guarantee competitive balance.

Daniel Stern @danielstern.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Yes I absolutely agree with a floor. The reason for a floor is owners don’t reinvest in the team - look at rev sharing with the A’s and Pirates every three years having to spend money. Again though, salary caps are for owners not players.

Daniel Stern @danielstern.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Can anyone prove that a salary cap leads to competitive balance? As a fan, it sounds warm & fuzzy that it will. I’d like proof if anyone has it.
100
Daniel Stern @danielstern.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Yes AND it’s why you play the game. It isn’t supposed to be easy. It isn’t just about big markets or money- look at the Mets or Giants or Angels. The point remains salary caps benefit owners, not the players. As a fan, you should want a great front office more than a cap that benefits owners.

Daniel Stern @danielstern.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
I like the brewers! I also jealous of owners who spend in mlb. My point is ownership & front office are 100% more important to winning than a salary cap. MLB has more competitive balance and diversity of winning than the NFL and NBA.

Daniel Stern @danielstern.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Salary cap doesn’t guarantee better competition or diversity in teams winning.

Daniel Stern @danielstern.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Objectively false. Look at the Milwaukee Brewers. Look at the Tampa Bay Rays the last two decades - decades! The A’s & Rockies don’t stink because of lacking a salary cap. The Browns & Cardinals in the NFL don’t stink because they have a salary cap… Salary cap’s don’t benefit players.

Yes QB is probably the single most important position in sports. But yhat is a fallacy, diversion, & not the reason why MLB owners want a salary cap. Foles, Darnold, Hurts? All in the last 10 years. The eagles did not win because of incredible quarterback play. I support capitalism & free market.
230
Daniel Stern @danielstern.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
That is objectively false & tired argument. Look at the last 10 Super Bowl champs. There isn’t more competitive balance in the NFL. Same goes for the NBA. Salary cap is not about competitive balance. John fisher doesn’t care about that. It’s about limiting individual incomes for the players.

Watch “Oz”. The cast the first couple seasons is Edie falco, Chris Meloni, JK Simmons, Dean Winters, BD Wong, JD Williams , Seth Gilliam … tons of people from The Wire or SVU or Sopranos all were on “Oz” right before

It would have cost way more than Kuminga & Hield to get AD, in talent and salary. If Porz doesn’t work out, warriors get $30mm salary off the books. At this point if you can’t get Giannis at least get salary relief?

Salary cap/floor doesn’t translate to parity in the slightest. NFL has had the chiefs in Super Bowl three years in a row. NHL Florida panthers back to back. Front office is more important than a salary cap/floor.

1/2 (3) the way ICE is handling is what is the general consensus. Prez ran on a campaign of removing illegal immigrant criminals and those eating cats & dogs. Now it’s become remove anyone even if they pay taxes, even if they do the work that others won’t. Thoughts on that shift causing “anger”?

1/ Appreciate the thoroughness of your thinking & not resorting to acrimonious replies. A few questions: (1) to the original question, why call out blue cities only? Sounds like you agree it should be red & blue? (2) why not blame the business/owners? If they don’t hire then workers wont come

Can you expand? Do you mean “you would support ice operating regardless if it’s a blue or red city”?

Sarah Huckabee Sanders (Republican Gov. of Arkansas) says: "What's happening in California would never happen here in Arkansas because we value order over chaos."

Gavin Newsom (Democratic Governor of California) responds:
"Your homicide rate is literally DOUBLE California's.

Republicans won’t raise the federal min wage of $7.25 because they Claim it will tank the economy—hasn’t budged since 2009. California raised it to $16.50 statewide, $20/hour for fast food—and in cities like West Hollywood, it’s $19.61. No collapse. No chaos. Just the 4th biggest economy on Earth.

The dearth of talent on defense, compared to the offense, is noticeable. Shannahan has proven to find diamonds in the rough on offense too. Need to focus on the defense.

A US citizen with a learning disability who has just suffered a medical emergency asks a CBP officer for directions outside the emergency room. He ends up detained in an icebox for ten days and has the assistant secretary of DHS lying about him to the public at large. popular.info/p/us-citizen...

The narrative being pushed about Jose Hermosillo is false. On April 8, Hermosillo approached Border Patrol in Tucson and stated he had entered the U.S. illegally through Nogales. He said he wanted to turn himself in and completed a sworn statement identifying as a Mexican citizen who had entered unlawfully.
He was processed and appeared in court on April 11. Afterward, he was held by the U.S. Marshals in Florence, AZ. A few days later, his family presented documents showing U.S. citizenship. The charges were dismissed, and he was released to his family.
This arrest was the direct result of Hermosillo's own actions and statements. In an interview with Popular Information, his first with any media outlet, Hermosillo said DHS'.
's account was false.
According to Hermosillo, he was visiting his girlfriend's family in Tucson from his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Several hours before his arrest, Hermosillo was transported to a hospital in Tucson by ambulance after suffering from a seizure. He has a New Mexico state ID, but did not take it with him during the medical emergency.
After being released from the hospital following treatment, Hermosillo did not know how to return to where he was staying.
He approached the Border Patrol officer because he was looking for someone to help him. "I saw a car, and I askled] him for help," Hermosillo said. He told the officer that he was staying in Tucson."You"
re not from here. Do you have your
papers?" the officer said, according to Hermosillo. When the officer asked where he was from, Hermosillo said he told the officer,
"New Mexico." The officer then accused Hermosillo of lying. "Don't make me lout] like [I'm] stupid," the officer said. "I know you're from Mexico." After that, Hermosillo said, he was arrested.
Hermosillo said that he never told the officer that he was born in Mexico, was a citizen of Mexico, or entered the country illegally. And he would not have said those things because they are not true. He signed the transcript released by DHS because the officer ordered him to "sign everything." But Hermosillo did not read it, because he cannot read.
According to Hermosillo's girlfriend, Grace Hernandez, Hermosillo has learning disabilities and can only write his name.
Hermosillo said he did not graduate from high school and dropped out after the 10th grade. The officer also signed the document, which said Hermosillo "read" the document or had
it read to him. But Hermosillo said no one read him the document.
Other documents created by the officer have inaccuracies. For example, the criminal complaint says that Hermosillo was detained
"at or near Nogales, Arizona." But Hermosillo was detained in Tuscon, which is more than 70 miles from Nogales. John Mennell, a spokesperson for the U.S. Border Patrol, said that it was an "unintentional" error.
Hermosillo said he was detained with about
15 other men in a cell at the Florence Correctional Center. He was served only cold food. He said he contracted the flu because
"they have it cold in there and everybody's getting sick." Hermosillo said he requested medicine but was not provided with any.
