The president sure seems like he knows what's coming www.nytimes.com/2026/09/11/u...

“We’re going to have a good time listening to music,” Mr. Trump said, name-checking Christopher Macchio, an opera singer who closed out the evening. “I’m getting a little bit tired of politics now.”

Before taking the stage for the second night in Dallas, Mr. Trump was asked by Laura Ingraham of Fox News whether he intended to campaign harder than he ever had before.

“No,” he replied bluntly. Asked by Ms. Ingraham whether or not he thought his legacy was on the line ahead of the midterm elections — “Isn’t this just as important, Mr. President?” — Mr. Trump seemed almost blasé about the possibility of Republicans losing one or both chambers of Congress. “I’ll block all their bad stuff for two years. It won’t be the same, but I’ll be a blocker, what can I tell you?”

I love how every time there's a horrible jobs report or horrible economic data that gets released the market is like WE SEE THE BRIGHT SIDE THIS IS ACTUALLY GOOD and shit pops, even as they also actually acknowledge it is very bad. Whoever said the market was rational was lying. This is madness.

I'm in Bologna Italy for a few days. Yesterday police here killed Moroccan man Abderrahim Fakir while apprehending him, looking very much like a George Floyd situation. The city erupted in protest today and I caught a good part of it. That's his sister talking about justice. Then the teargas.

Flatly against SCOTUS precedent, FIU claims that all "expressive activities' are banned indoors, whether they cause a "disruption" or not. That's why they're coming after the students. And then there's the videos students are being asked to make because of the supposed infraction.

Interesting that the Trump family is on the one hand fostering a mass revolt against Albania's socialist government, while Albanian opposition is spending 100s of thousands of dollars with top Trump-aligned lobbyists to lift sanctions and launder the reputation of the far-right opposition leader.

Here at the Freedom Tower in downtown Miami, where the DOJ is expected to announce an indictment against Cuba's Raúl Castro, who is 94-years-old. It stems from Castro ordering two civilian planes shot down in 1996, killing four Cuban-Americans, including two US citizens.

This passage in Alito's majority VRA opinion essentially means that Florida's Fair Districting Amendment, passed by voters in 2010, is intact. The amendment bans partisan gerrymandering. This will be at the center of a major court battle over the coming months, assuming FL passes new maps today.

Properly understood, §2 thus does not intrude on States’
prerogative to draw districts based on nonracial factors.
“Redistricting constitutes a traditional domain of state legislative authority.” Alexander, 602 U. S., at 7. The Constitution imposes some important restrictions on the States’
exercise of this power, but they are otherwise free to draw
districts as they please. We have held that they may use
traditional districting factors such as “compactness, contiguity,” “maintaining the integrity of political subdivisions,
preserving the core of existing districts,” and protecting incumbents. Bush, 517 U. S., at 964; Miller, 515 U. S., at 906,
916. Nothing in the Constitution requires States to heed
these criteria, of course, and the desirability of some of
these criteria might be disputed. But because they are not
forbidden by the Constitution, it is up to each State to decide what weight, if any, they warrant.
The same is true with respect to the drawing of districts
to achieve partisan advantage. Disapproval of partisan gerrymandering dates back to the founding. See Rucho v.
Common Cause, 588 U. S. 684, 696–697 (2019). But partisan gerrymandering claims are not justiciable in federal
court.
