It’s ok, I don’t think I’m that interesting either

What’s the magical thing in the first photo with his shirt cuffs rolled back like that?

Got my shots yesterday and feel like crap. So glad I’ll feel all good tomorrow and not be sick for days like I would be with Covid or the flu!

Yeah, not enough. I need the whole thing. EK: I feel like you’re treating these like these are not things that we have seen again and again in history, but I feel like they are things we’ve seen again and again in history, that we’ve watched... JH: But Ezra, I see a lot of good things in history.

I know that #hatereads are kind of @davekarpf.bsky.social 's thing, but I feel like the world needs a #hatelisten to the Jensen Huang interview on Ezra Klein. Pleeeeeease, Dave?

I feel like the Sweetest Batch berries generally do deliver on the promise. I’d never buy them at retail but at my “last chance” bodega that shops the Hunter’s Point market for me I’m all over them. But otherwise, no.

Also, just to zero in on the specific example, it completely ignores power. Part of the reason banks can add friction is power. You really think they won’t use THEIR AI to keep making money from you? You really think it costs $3 to use somebody else’s ATM?

I would LOVE to see tech bros’ guesstimates of what shares of the population do different types of labor. Part of the infatuation with AI has to be that they can’t really imagine what most people do all day

Definitely a good one. If only the Brussels would slice themselves in half it’d be perfect

And the speed of the change. Water in the US is hugely fragmented—way more than energy—and has billions in deferred maintenance (to say nothing of new issues like PFAS). Closed loop data centers don’t use a huge amount of water, but they still are a quick arriving stressor on a stressed system

They clearly made a decision that “completely failed to stick the landing” and “followed great with one to two awful seasons” were not disqualifying

Esoteric hyper-specific fields rarely come out intact when they suddenly become highly salient to everyone (e.g. public health, data center siting, utility rate setting)

Mass Save, the MA ratepayer-funded efficiency program, spends multiple billions each year on electrification and heat pumps and even they have a long way to go. It’s a BIG project, but desperately needed

So the question is why did the two, which used to be fairly tightly linked, delink? The spike of both in 2021 happens together but one goes down and the other doesn’t. The 2009 episode is also interesting. Inflation nearly goes negative and yet, huge spike in price anxiety. People “felt” poorer

“By design” meaning they’re not trying to attract attention because they don’t see it as a core part of their job as Leaders. I would disagree with that judgment if it’s true, but I could at least imagine an argument for it

Daniel Mintz @danielmintz.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Completely agree that parsing tiny word choices is silly. And lord knows that “breaking through” in our godforsaken information environment ain’t easy. But can we agree that Schumer and Jeffries are terrible at getting attention? Maybe that’s by design, but to me it feels like a problem

Not gonna litigate the specifics cause I’m sure we won’t convince each other. My contention is that Dem leadership sucks at generating friction and in today’s info environment that’s what drives attention. They want to pivot to anodyne (but important) stuff like health care. Which gets no coverage

Daniel Mintz @danielmintz.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Nope. It’s subtle, but these are different. The Canadian example is “They’re doing awful things to distract from Epstein.” Jeffries is “We should be talking about health care, but we can’t because they want to protect Epstein.” One pivots INTO the weakness. The other pivots away from it

But also, it is nigh-impossible to predict which decisions will be history-defining. Thus my grand unified theory of “work for structural change but also throw a bunch of shit at the wall cause you don’t know what’ll stick” 😅

“Alignment” has always bugged me. It stipulates that AI is different from all other technology and needs to be “convinced” to “behave.” Which, maybe? But I’m not stipulating it.

Two possibilities: Jeffries’ people leaked it, showing how out of touch he is with the base. Kushner’s people leaked it, showing Jeffries got played

If that’s true and they only had YOB, that’d absolutely decimate their claims. Entity resolution is one of those things that seems easy but is monstrously difficult in reality. Joe Smith (1982) at 123 6th Ave Apt A and Joseph Smith (1982) at 123A Sixth Avenue. Same person? Unrelated? Who knows?

But yes, a quick glance at the 2014 paper indicates there’s basically no cascade you could construct that would have a low enough overall false match rate to be able to reliably detect anything at the exceedingly precise level of ~0.02% without it being swamped by noise

Daniel Mintz @danielmintz.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
This isn’t quite my area of expertise, but it’s adjacent. Without the actual code/details of their match procedure, it’s hard to say much for certain. Since it’s a cascade, false match errors will accumulate.
