Sculpting really doesn’t come naturally to me, but I’m having a great time making silly weird cartoon animals to distract from ✨ life ✨

I’m still far from fully healed, but pushing myself to try new things and to get myself back to “normal”. I tried solid sculpting of glass for the first time and made my broken shoulder (it’s life sized!) based on the CT images. Need to give it a second try to refine it, but super happy with it

Really missing having two arms and being able to do things like “wash my own hair” 🙃 Instead I’m a cyborg with an upper arm full of titanium and a variety of medical advice from “do as much as you can” through to “move your arm wrong and your muscle will break the titanium pin”

Prototype set of whisky glasses with implosion bases finally made it home today. I really like these and might have to make some more....

Glass is good at teaching you to detach from things… right after recording this I managed to… break out the cups avolio while knocking off :( But I’m still really happy with how this went. I do love that going thin is increasingly my default too 😅

I still need to buy new lights (and some large-ish softboxes), but my new backdrops and holder arrived! Slowly getting things ready to do nice photography of my glass over the next few months 🎉 - but for now enjoy a couple of recent pieces with some very awkward lighting.

Goblets are peak "glassblowing for glassblowers" in that they're entirely pointless but are a really fun way to challenge yourself. I haven't made any in the hotshop since September, but had a great time making this full cane goblet and now i might spend some time making more 😂 #glassart
A goblet on the end of a metal punty rod. The goblet is a mix of two types of cane pattern, with a tall cup section that leads into a ball made of the same pattern and a deep foot.

According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible. #glassart

I made myself some glasses in December, finally using them for their original purpose (a nice Balvenie 21 port wood)
A glass sits on a wooden table. In the background is a lamp with a print of a bicycle. The glass has a pattern of chaotic white lines, and is partially filled with a deep amber liquid.

If you're in Berlin today, I'm doing my first ever market with my glass - at #Weddingmarkt Christmas Market on Leopoldplatz - from 11:00 - 19:00! (i'm... a lil terrified, but I did make a bunch of cute mini vases so....)

Making use of some of my recent practice goblets - they’re getting better! (Opening vessels on the torch is definitely still not my strong suit, but getting better!)
Two goblets, one with optic ridges and a candy cane stem - the other without ridges and a purple stem.

Both have an orange wine inside.

I really struggled to shape this one, and was definitely a “what can you save” effort - the blue turned to butter, and the stiff cane combination made it want to get weird fast. I think I know how to make this go better next time though - and that’s what counts 😅 #art #glass
A blue and white vase - it is slightly mishapen, with the curve being uneven between the two halves of the vessel.

I made a new #vase! Still playing with the idea of various flowing forms. This orange on black was loosely inspired by the idea of flowing lava. #art

A year ago today I took my first “make a cup” intro class in Seattle (the blue cup), and this week I ~solo (hot shop work requires an assistant, but without like… guidance) blew the vase to the left. Tomorrow, I’m learning to teach, and maybe? actually _teaching_ my first make a cup classes 😅

New glass! I made a decanter, and it’s the biggest piece I’ve made 😅 Holds ~1.5L in the main body which makes it perfect for cold brew season - excited to start using it 🎉

I've reached the "starting to design my own tools" part of glassblowing and I have some kind of feelings about this (mostly bad because I'm writing OpenSCAD rn). But this is the 2nd iteration of part of some "rollers", used in flameworking to take the weight of pieces while tooling them.
A screenshot of OpenSCAD showing a plate with curved cutouts, and many screw holes along a curve on the top edge. The bottom has two sticking out plates, also with screw holes.

I got my first hot shop blown foot into the box and safely annealed yesterday. It’s ugly as fuck but it’s on center, well attached, and stands straight 😅 Next week let’s see if I manage that with a stem too 😂

I really do like finding the quiet spaces even in the busiest places. I can’t say I particularly enjoy Venice, but the color and vibrancy are at least a nice break from the monotony of Berlin.
An image overlooking a canal, in the foreground is a covered boat, the lines lead up to a bridge, with a clear reflection in the water below. A single persons head can be seen peaking over the wall of the bridge. The colors are warm and inviting underneath a cold sun.A path runs to the right of a canal, on the left, a row of buildings run directly to the waters edge. The buildings are painted in reds and oranges, and warm whites. On the path a couple of people are enjoying the peace and sun.
