Eisenkot, the most likely alternative to Netanyahu for the next head of government in Israel, says yesterday that "two states for two peoples is a mistake" and that "Ben Gvir probably did some good things in the prisons". He also said he would not coalition with any of the Palestinian parties.

Since 2015, at least 83 Saudi air raids hit Sana'a airport. @yemendataproject.org recorded three civilians killed in those 83 bombings. Israel has bombed Sana'a airport three times, killing four civilians, injuring 33 and destroying five passenger jets. A US strike also hit the airport in 2025.

NEW: The head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a statement firmly condemning plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan. Archbishop Paul Coakley calls the decision “a barbaric promotion of a culture of death and must be reconsidered.” www.usccb.org/news/2026/us...

WASHINGTON - Yesterday, the U.S.
Department of War announced that the firing squad execution of Nidal Hasan, the man convicted of killing 13 people and injuring 32 at Fort Hood, Texas in 2009, would be publicly livestreamed. Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued the following statement sharply condemning the decision of the U.S. government:
"It is with shock and great sorrow that I have learned of the Department of War's decision to publicly livestream the execution of Nidal Hassan. Our God is the God of life. In no way can Hassan's actions be condoned but this decision is a barbaric promotion of a culture of death and must be reconsidered. The word of God exhorts us: 'do not repay anyone evil for evil' (Romans 12:17). The public execution even of one who has done grave harm will only further undermine the moral fabric of our nation and be a blight on the conscience of its people.United States

McGurk was working at the highest levels through some of the most consequential moments, and he consistently got it wrong with horrific consequences. He is exhibit A of of who should be blacklisted from government service. A sane Democratic elected official wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

Let's just marvel at how absurd it is for Booker to call McGurk "one of our nation's great experts on the Middle East" when McGurk has been on the wrong side of virtually every major issue his entire career. We have regional experts, and McGurk is not one of them. Time-serving is not expertise.

It's very clear from @akbarshahidahmed.bsky.social's book Crossing the Red Line that Biden's enabling of Israel's wars paved the way for everything Trump has done in the region. Biden shielded Israel from the consequences of its aggressive actions and abandoned diplomacy with Iran. He set the table

Endless gripe with English-speaking journalists, media and politicians. Houthi(s) is pronounced like the TH in Thursday. It is NOT Houtea or Houti, which seems to be the default. If you’re Irish, or speaking English with an Irish accent, you get a pass. Everyone else, you just sound ridiculous.

It's the flip side of the hawkish tendency to blame the U.S. for "allowing" terrible things to happen in all the places where our government isn't very involved. In their view, the only things that the U.S. is never responsible for are the things that our government enables and supports.
