America doesn’t need to annex Canada, American politics and values have already arrived.

From someone on the outside, I see Canadian politics constantly sliding towards a milder version of American politics. Maybe because it is “slightly” better, Canadians simply don’t care? Are you proud to be Canadian because of Doug Ford? Why didn’t Ontario vote?

First illustration finished for my book on Hommura. Hommura is part of Hase village, in Kamikawa, Hyogo, Japan, where I am living. This is Ichihara Shrine 市原神社 #兵庫県 #神河町

An illustration on paper showing a stone path with stone lion statues on each side, leading to stone steps. At the top of the steps is a long stone fence, behind it are two wooden buildings with traditional Japanese clay tile roofs, these are old Shinto shrines. Large trees fill out the background of the illustration. A pen is below the drawing to show the size.

I’m trying out some different pens, getting ready to start illustrating one of the next books. Here’s a drawing of my favourite restaurant in Himeji. たか月 54 Tatemachi, Himeji, Hyogo, Japan

A black and white illustration of a 2 story building. Attached, on either side are 3 story buildings. The sidewalk and street are visible along the front of the buildings. There are some elements from the Showa time period in japan, as well as modern things like air conditioning units and a satellite dish. The Japanese characters on the sign read Takatsuki. A wooden door with a small fabric curtain above let’s us assume that this is a restaurant of some sort.

Junko-san prepares food in the small Japanese restaurant. It is Showa style inside, with space for only 6 customers at the counter.

View through a sliding door into a Japanese garden. There is a lacquered bamboo chair on the walkway.

The Beguiling @thebeguiling.bsky.social has been generous enough to organize everything and not take a commission, so please give them your support. Thank you to everyone who has bought pages from the book so far. The last time I checked we had donated around $18,000. CDN

Just a reminder that there are still many of my original illustrations from the book Denison Avenue available to purchase. 100% of the proceeds are being donated to the Fort York Food Bank in Toronto. denisonavenuecharityartsale.square.site

Description
Top panel:
Akram's Shoppe, a middle eastern groceries store, at 191 Baldwin Street. The store has signs advertising the foods they sell.

Bottom panel:
191 Baldwin Street, where Akram's Shoppe used to exist. The signs have been removed from the shop, and a metal criss-cross fence blocks entry into the building.
