Anwar Ibrahim once championed those fleeing Myanmar’s junta. Now, with his government reeling, he is preparing to send them back.

None without achievements – but each adds to the busy-work of summitry, and outcomes drift. Fixing the blocked plumbing of global affairs is worth doing. It's just grubby work of compromise, not another launch. The world doesn't need another venue for debate. It has one. The UN.

Why a new summit? Held on the sidelines of UN leaders' week, Albanese and Modi will tag along. It's the reflex of the modern era. Confront a crisis, set a new table. COP for climate. The G20 after the crash. BRICS to answer the G7. MIKTA for those left out.
