I followed up my xG% streak analysis for a 5-7 game stretch to see if there's been any improvement via @evolving-hockey.com 's model. The 26-27 Flyers now rank in terms of any time streaks: - 4 game: 2nd worst all time - 6 game: 15th worst all time - 7 game: 4th worst all time Still really bad!

Last thought (should have made this a thread): I think the Flyers rebuild style has made this exact scenario a nightmare because they need to attract talent. They cannot risk becoming a circus. Why choose Philly? They need their rep of “building something real” to be sterling.

Really feels like shit that I’ve been claiming that the Flyers are Actually Fine/Good the last 3 years when it’s clearly been issues in net for them to have the complete opposite this year and give fuel that they’ve been “bad all along.”

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

Flyers are playing like a team that wants to get their coach fired. To be clear, I don’t think they actively do or dislike Tocchet at all. But this just is such a mess from top to bottom.

Maybe one day people will realize that these guys know what they're doing and the typical hockey men don't always know some secret unknowable sauce. But I think it'll take a few cups for that to change.

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 12/06/2026

Not a fan of the Flyers being linked to both McTavish and Nurse.

I need an COL/CAR final so bad. I cannot fathom the “discourse” that would come from of a MTL/VGL Stanley Cup Final.

The Flyers probably win that game with a competent PP. I think it’s by far the biggest thing they need to fix. I think a lot of guys are playing injured, they are clearly gassed from trying to get to this point, and they weren’t supposed to be here. Enjoy the ride.

280

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 03/05/2026

Flyers really just need to completely refresh the PP. try something crazy. Put Martone Mich Zegras with York together. Do something different. Can’t just keep repeating this and expecting it to change

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 30/04/2026

To me, Tocchet’s big test against the Canes will be adapting to how the game flows. I thought towards the end he was getting outmaneuvered by Muse a bit and Vladar had to stand on his head to eke out the win. The Canes are a different beast entirely.

Good game for Bump, bad game for a lot of others. Feels right.

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 28/04/2026

Our entire gameplan with a man up is to play keep away with Risto. It’s so bad.

010

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 28/04/2026

If they end up losing this game, Flyers gotta change something up structurally. Feels like Pittsburgh adjusted and the Flyers have not.

010

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 28/04/2026

Great shift by Foerster, and a little puck luck ties it up

000

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 28/04/2026

Look when you have the opportunity for Risto to shoot wide shots from the point over and over again, you gotta roll with that. those are the rules

Big test for Tocchet here. Whole team is out of sync, not playing the way they were playing the first three games. Has to get them back on track.

4-2 Flyers victory, calling my shot.

070

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 26/04/2026

The Flyers' entire top 4 defensemen have been stellar. All four of those guys look every bit of meeting the moment. Risto's offensive game woke up, Sanheim looks like a number 1, York has been a wall, and Drysdale looks like a guy you could be happy getting back for Gauthier.

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 26/04/2026

Zegras got that entire thing going.

Guys who have completely gone up another gear in the playoffs: Couturier, Tippett, Drysdale, Sanheim, Risto, Martone, Hathaway, Glendening. Zegras and Foerster have continued to be awesome, but those other guys look like completely different players.

120

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 23/04/2026

And now he was broken in half by a cross check. How much more punishment can one man take

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 21/04/2026

Through two games, a lot of positives for the Flyers young core. Drysdale looks every bit of a first pair defender. Been more active offensively and his defense might be his best weapon at this point. Made Crosby look foolish. His skating is unreal, so hard to get separation off of him.

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 19/04/2026

Matches the eye test. So many players looked great it’s hard to name someone who didn’t.

Credit to Tocchet for this season. This team looks ready for the playoffs, they bought into his system, and it’s working well.

Flyers looking like straight up the better team through the first half.

000

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 19/04/2026

Konecny and Couturier have the juice so far. Buzzing out there. Lot of young guys look great too.

010

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 18/04/2026

Flyers series is going to come down to goaltending and penalties. If the Flyers stay out of the box and Vladar remains consistent, I think they can grind out the Penguins. A lot of the public models aren’t seeing the difference in net because of Ersson, and the Flyers have legitimate momentum.

Finally can start working on my regular season in review article. Going to look at how each player performed by the metrics and try to assign a grade. And maybe a spicy grade for one Rick Tocchet as well.

Michkov really woke up the last 15% of the season. He and Martone have been critical to this teams success.

Flyers in 7. This series is likely going to get super chippy. Should be a blast. Flyers are playing with house money. Going far doesn’t matter. They fucking sold and they’re going to the playoffs!! What a world.

Win or lose, this game being tied up by Barkey, Michkov, Foerster, Martone, and Zegras is so important for their development

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 08/04/2026

Flyers RAPM card with 4 games left in the season. I think this team has finally figured out their offensive game in the last 20% of the year, and I think if they can add a piece over the summer, this team can be really dangerous all of next year. Vibes are sky high.

Daniel Bompadre @danielbompadre.bsky.social · 08/04/2026

How did Barkey still get that pass off.
