Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Healing can mean learning to let in experiences that contradict our chronic shame, rather than explaining them away. Over time, allowing new evidence to reach us emotionally can begin to challenge the belief that we are inadequate. 021
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Emotional healing asks us to turn towards pain, fear, grief and shame rather than simply push them away. We don’t do this alone or all at once: safety and support matter. I explore this paradox in my forthcoming book, Chronic Shame in the Spotlight 020
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 08/09/2026When chronic shame makes us judge ourselves as irredeemably flawed, we become our own adversary. Healing can change that relationship: we become less of an adversary and more of an ally, easing the loneliness within. 011
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 01/09/2026One important consequence of chronic shame is the fear it generates. These fears can remain hidden and unrecognised even when their effects compromise our lives and relationships. I explore these concepts in my forthcoming book, Chronic Shame in the Spotlight. 000
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Chronic shame can affect how we see ourselves, our emotional world and even our bodies. It may show up as anxiety, depression, disconnection, or feeling like we’re not living our potential. Healing means going beneath the symptoms to the deeper wound. 072
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 11/08/2026Healing from emotional trauma and chronic shame is rarely a straight line. We make progress, feel hopeful, then suddenly find old patterns returning. It can feel like we’ve undone everything - but we haven’t. Healing isn’t linear. Keep going with curiosity, awareness and self-compassion. 020
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 11/08/2026I first read Sam Keen’s words 20+ years ago, and I still return to them: the questions we ask shape how we experience life. I’ve found it equally valuable to notice the questions I’m avoiding. Sometimes they have the most to teach us. What are you asking - and more importantly, avoiding? 010
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 27/07/2026I read ‘The Choice’ by the late Dr. Eger’s a few years ago and it had a deep impact at the time. One of the ideas that resonated most was this: we don’t heal from trauma because the wounds simply disappear. Instead, healing comes from discovering new ways to live alongside those wounds. 010
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 20/07/2026When we begin healing, many of us hope it’s a straight path to being "fixed." But as Marion Woodman said, healing follows a spiral. Each turn brings us back to ourselves, meeting another layer of what we carry. 010
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 10/07/2026We cannot undo what happened to us, nor can we simply unlearn the protective strategies that developed in response to traumatising experiences. Healing begins when we become more conscious of what happened to us and of the fear and chronic shame that often remain long after the original events. 010
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 07/07/2026Chronic shame makes us hide who we are from others and ourselves. The ways we try to protect ourselves often deepen shame instead. Healing begins by questioning the belief that we're fundamentally inadequate. To learn more join my mailing list - www.danielasieff.com/sign-up 010
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 30/06/2026Dag Hammarskjöld was a Swedish economist, this quote is one of my favourites. Letting go of comparison isn't easy. It takes practice. But on the occasions when we manage this, it brings a spacious generosity to our lives and to our relationships with other people. 010
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 23/06/2026Trauma often leads us to disconnect from the parts of ourselves we believe made us vulnerable, while strengthening defenses that seem to keep us safe. Healing asks us to know both our defended self and our unlived potential - to meet both our shadow and our light. 020
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 16/06/2026Unrecognised chronic shame doesn’t disappear, it shapes our behaviour from the shadows. It can lead us to hurt ourselves and others without understanding why. Healing begins by recognising and understanding it. This is the focus of my forthcoming book 010
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 08/06/2026Healing from trauma may feel like a series of breakthroughs. But mostly it is a matter of patience and perseverance. Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 19/05/2026Emotional sensitivity isn’t simply a gift or a flaw - it depends on where it comes from. At its healthiest, it deepens compassion and connection. When rooted in unaddressed trauma or shame, it can lead to reactions that hurt ourselves and others. 010

Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 20/04/2026The many names for shame reveal how central and painful it is. They also mean that we often miss it. Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 07/04/2026Working with chronic shame is not only personal work. It quietly shapes the emotional climate around us, reducing the harm we pass on and widening what becomes possible between people. My upcoming book on chronic shame explores how we can work with chronic shame and the difference that makes to us ✨ 010
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 31/03/2026Some shame comes from the inside - not from being seen, but from feeling we’ve betrayed ourselves. Sometimes there is a genuine betrayal, and then we need to listen to shame. But other times, we are betraying values that are not true to us. And then we have to step forward anyhow. 010
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 24/03/2026Grief is not a detour from healing chronic shame; it is part of the path. It is something I explore in depth in my upcoming book on chronic shame and its healing. Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 10/03/2026Shame has a genuine protective role to play in our lives, but it can also become distorted. This kind of inner shaming voice is a distortion. Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 24/02/2026Shame is part of being human, and so healing from chronic shame does not mean getting rid of it. Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 17/02/2026Shame can isolate, yet it’s always relational. It can be healthy or harmful. Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 10/02/2026Emotional resilience is not emotional control. It’s the ability to notice when we’re overwhelmed and hold our feelings before acting on them. Like learning to swim as an adult, it develops slowly - we practise, falter, and try again, and over time it changes how we relate to ourselves and others. 011
Daniela Sieff PhD @danielasieff.bsky.social · 03/02/2026Chronic shame may never fully disappear - but healing changes how we relate to it. For me, the shift came when I stopped silencing shame and learned to recognise it, endure it, and return from it.
