West coast UK people! It’s Manx shearwater fledgling season. Dim those lights or better yet, turn them off, to help our fledglings get the best start on their first voyage at sea 🌊 Coastal light pollution is causing them to become disorientated and strand in land. Many can’t be saved and die.

Today marks the first day of meteorological autumn, and the birds know it… I was lucky enough to see this ‘mega roost’, tens of thousands of swallows all feeding together ahead of their long journey across continents and ocean to Africa. Incredible sight.

Not sure if anyone speaks bee, but what could this red tailed bumble bee be trying to say? Today a neighbour complained that a shrub in my garden was bringing too many insects in. That’s the point of the shrub, I replied, as I had this little one clinging to the sleeve of my jumper 🐝

I know the dark mornings are hard, but lean into them. Humans are hardwired to respond to natural light and, importantly, natural darkness. It’s crucial for our core working systems like hormonal and nervous, to get exposure to both. So, enjoy the late sunsets whilst you still can!

I have two dogs. One is a Corgi. One is a German Shepherd X mountain breed. These mats get rolled up with treats and tied in a knot as a brain game to work their minds. Can you tell which dogs gets which mat? One is delicate and methodical. The other has a more… destructive, approach.

By 9pm, the mighty hunter, Orion, will be firmly above the horizon if you look SE. Possibly the most famous shape in the night sky with the 3 stars in his belt and the bright yellow star at his shoulder -Betelgeuse - all clearly visible to anyone with dark to moderately light polluted skies

So much rain coming down relentlessly all day. A5 between Tregarth and Bethesda was barely passable. A BMW started to smoke just after this and got a bit buoyant. 1.5C exceeded. More scenes like this to come, more frequently, and closer and closer to home.
