My Rage Against the Machine/Les Mis mashup is complete. This is my interpretation of the quilt guild’s summer challenge “quilt with your interpretation and/or feelings towards our current ‘democracy’” all hand stitched.

My mom had polio. She was in the Sister Kenney Institute in Mpls from ages 2-5 (1956-1959). She was paralyzed during that time. After recovery, she had post-Polio syndrome that caused muscle problems throughout her 50s. Her family lived 3 hours away on a farm & couldn't go see her very often.

I swam in the Mississippi River* for an hour today. Floating down with the current, then swimming against it, then floating, then back up river. It was lovely & peaceful. *Don't worry. I am not crazy. This was up in Little Falls where it is deep enough to swim, but clean enough to not get sick.

1 I heard GOP gov candidate Lisa Demuth say she is going to lower property taxes. Knowing a lot about county finance, I was curious how the state could lower property taxes. Tax credits, of course, is part of her plan, but that doesn't lower taxes - it just shifts whose paying & adds paperwork.

My Uncle Billy died on my birthday 11 years ago. Every year since, my cousin sends me flowers which is beautiful way to mark both occasions.
