A few numbers that put billionaire philanthropy in perspective: • $2+ trillion sitting in foundations & donor-advised funds • Up to 73% of ultra-wealthy donations effectively subsidized by taxpayers • 69% of nonprofits facing funding cuts ips-dc.org/philanthropy...

Nothing screams "working for the American people" like spending their tax dollars to make commercial ads praising yourself while everyone else struggles to afford groceries.

Brazilian stocks are soaring because investors see Bolsonaro as an opportunity. They’re betting on Brazil’s economy opening further to foreign capital through the familiar neoliberal playbook: deregulation and privatization for investors, austerity and cuts to social spending for everyone else.

Notice how the headline frames Cuba as the potential lawbreaker: a ship is “intercepted” while “smuggling” oil into the country. What the headline obscures is that the U.S. is the one violating international law by imposing an oil blockade on Cuba and hijacking oil shipments bound for the island.

Trump has pressured Lula’s government through tariffs and diplomatic measures while supporting Bolsonaro. The CEPR article discusses how this reflects a broader attempt to reshape Brazil’s relationship with the U.S. and reassert Washington’s influence across Latin America. cepr.net/publications...

Not even The Onion could make this up: Before deciding whether to intervene in Venezuela, Trump reportedly spent hours consulting an AI chatbot about how Venezuelans would react to his plan to invade the country and overthrow Maduro.

It feels like an oxymoron to say Hegseth is “weaponizing” the military. Yet that is exactly what he is doing: using the fight against “wokeness” as a pretext to purge senior leaders who muster an ounce of resistance or raise the slightest objection and replace them with ideological loyalists.

The AI economy is increasingly following a familiar model: Private companies build. Government subsidizes. Corporations capture the upside. Taxpayers absorb the cost. Meta reportedly reduced its 2025 federal tax bill by $3.9 billion by classifying AI data centers as experimental research.

This is what happens when A.I. is optimized for profit rather than harm reduction: DraftKings developed models to identify gamblers most likely to lose money and targeted them with promotions, while efforts to use similar technology to identify gamblers likely to become addicted were shelved.

“National Security” is the euphemism they deploy when they have no logical argument or empirical evidence to justify their position. Instead of providing evidence, they invoke “National Security” to push through their agenda.

US sanctions on Cuba are economic warfare: • 7,000+ containers stranded • Essential aid blocked: ICU solar panels, cancer meds, water treatment • Crucial shipping lost: Sanctions scared off cargo lines • Mass suffering: Surging hunger, 100k awaiting surgery www.nytimes.com/2026/09/17/w...

Trump’s Economic Vise Leaves Cubans Desperate for Food and Medicine
The U.S. says its sanctions are not aimed at depriving Cuba of essential goods. Thousands of stranded shipping containers tell a different story.

Trump accidentally said the quiet part out loud and admitted the U.S. is “repressive” when it comes to journalism. Less than 24 hours later, he demonstrated exactly what he meant by banning CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House.

For decades, the political project has been remarkably consistent: Cut taxes for the wealthy → reduce public revenue → increase deficits → use the resulting debt to justify cutting social programs. This not a non-political fiscal policy choice. It's a mechanism for redistributing wealth upward.

We've entered a new phase of surveillance capitalism where the government doesn't just collect information about you. It can analyze your behavior, determine that you're statistically suspicious, and use that assessment to initiate a police encounter.

Corporate profits just hit a record 13.2% of GDP. Wages simultaneously fell to a record-low 41.1%. This is the political economy of modern capitalism: record profits, a shrinking share for workers, and corporations spending billions on political donations and lobbying to maintain the status quo.

The SEC is officially arguing that banning private equity from bribing public officials "stifles free speech." First Citizens United equated campaign donations with free speech, and now anti-corruption guardrails are being erased under the exact same logic.

Corporate profits are soaring while workers struggle to keep up with the cost of living. Since 2019: Profits: +52% Wages: +12% This is what the economy looks like when growth is increasingly organized around extracting wealth from working people rather than improving their lives.

Data centers get tax breaks, subsidies and electricity at a fraction of what ordinary households pay. Communities get higher infrastructure costs, greater pressure on the power grid, environmental impacts and higher energy bills. The profits are privatized. The costs are socialized.
