Acorn the otter heading upstream on the River Lee in Cork City this afternoon. Watch until the end for 'doggy paddle'. Distinctive marks can help identify individual otters. Acorn is easily identifiable by the 'acorn' ish shaped scar on his nose. He has been places you would not believe. #cork

Being a bit of a tourist in my own city. Probably #Cork city's most recognisable landmark, the Bells of Shandon. The bells in St Anne's tower date from 1750,visitors can climb up and play them from a numbered chart, entertaining the city with their musical, and ehm.. not so musical, renditions #Ireland
Alt text description: The tower of St Anne's Church, Shandon, in Cork, seen looking up a narrow street. The tall limestone tower rises above a row of pastel terraced houses, with a black clock face marked Mangan, an open belfry stage near the top, and the gilded Goldie Fish as a weathervane above it. Stone columns of a portico frame the left of the shot. Cars are parked along the street below. Clear blue sky.

Another clip of the otters filmed last Sunday in the River Lee, Cork City. It's a good time to see otters in the city. There is plenty of activity currently. Keep your eyes on the lovely Lee at any time of the day. #cork See less

I think we might just be getting dark and cloudy evening in Cork… my unopened 2026 eclipse glasses might become a collectors item 😂

The weather's looking promising, so I stocked up on solar eclipse glasses via Astronomy Ireland. We might have clear skies on Wednesday here in Cork and across the southwest 🤞☀️

Plenty of fluffy clouds but still a very pleasant August evening looking out over the north channel of the Lee as it flows through Cork #Ireland
North Channel of the Lee from one of the bridges, looking west into a low sun breaking through fluffy cloud. Limestone quay walls on both sides, green moss at the waterline, trees along the quays and a run of tall gabled houses in the distance. Cork city, Ireland.

Unusual soundscape for Cork City in this hot weather. Grasshoppers and crickets turn up the volume the warmer it gets; this 28-30°C heat is making them much more audible - normally something I’d associate with much warmer climes. Here’s one of them:

Many Irish libraries give access to Freegal Music, where you can stream the Sony catalogue and you can also download 5 songs a week for free. I haven't been able to find out what kind of royalties the singers and songwriters get from it, but it'd be difficult for it to be worse than with Spotify.

A view across Cork city rooftops under a big sky of broken cloud and patches of blue. The twin spires of St Fin Barre’s Cathedral rise in the middle distance, with a mix of old terraced buildings, slate roofs and modern buildings spread across the skyline.

AI doesn’t hallucinate because it’s failing. It hallucinates because it’s succeeding - at what it primarily does: matching patterns. Just shows why you need to know what your tools are, and what they’re not! Results are fairly hilarious in this test though:
