I see them similarly, but we're running into a secondary problem of there not being many other tentpole Nintendo releases; first-party development has been slow in the Switch 2 era, it feels like it's going to be a few years before we see much that isn't a remake aside from maybe the new Fire Emblem

Precisely where I'm at; Starfox keeps needing remakes of 64 because it's basically a dolled-up version of the original game and we keep getting massive 15-year spans between Starfox games; we haven't gone without a Zelda for more than like three years at the longest in recent memory.

yeah, I feel like remaking the most beloved Zelda was a decision almost solely driven by sluggish Switch 2 adoption rates, but I wonder how many people are actually going to be enticed into a buy given the original is so beloved that even the lightly-adjusted 3DS remake has its detractors

There's a circling of the wagons in the Switch 2 era, a lack of confidence in moving forward that's a bit sad to see; after four decades of wild style experimentation, it's a minor bummer to see a regression to the safety and comfort of older successes from a company that used to be a tastemaker.

Mere years ago Nintendo had a strong ethos of 'We don't remaster classic paintings, why would we do it in any other medium' that only really got broken when porting a game to a handheld. It feels weird to see them immediately Playing The Hits like a washed-up rock band so quickly after Iwata died

I don't have a ton of skin in the game for OOT's remake aside from the art style looking a little plasticky for the otherwise realistic textures to the point that it looks like a Rankin-Bass special, but it is a weird era for Nintendo to be trotting out nostalgic remakes left and right

Honestly, just give them zero fuel to work with and minimize their ability to contact you. Don’t respond to anything they send, just block whatever comes your way and move on; the amount of energy it takes to sustain a harassment campaign is way higher than the energy it takes to box one out.

Yeah, I feel like criticism of the remake will be valid if they can't either shake things up inside this game a bit or if they can't commit to making a sequel with any momentum they build; to some degree this feels like a Last Chance for Starfox as a whole and I want to see them take a real swing.

I'd like to see it diverge when it can to keep it spicy for old players but, like, there are people who are almost 30 who weren't ALIVE when the only fully agreed-upon Starfox game dropped; the options are to erase the history or revisit it, entrenched, ancient fans like me aren't a core audience

I also kind of understand why it's a remake; like, every other Nintendo franchise they care about is bi-yearly; Starfox hasn't been relevant in 15 years at the latest and almost 30 years at the highest point. You have to build from Square 1 again with that kind of time between games

I think Fox and Slippy's designs are unassailably good if radically different from their previous iterations; Falco and Peppy are an acquired taste but I love how busted both of them look, Falco looks like he's one good punch from his entire beak falling off and Peppy is just perfectly bedraggled
