Cadle Heath is not far away, but it wouldn't be part of the same ecosystem.

I also had a pair of Spotted Flycatchers in my local woodland this morning. Delighted to see them so close to home.

Lovely walk along the Cilsan - Dryslwyn cycle path this morning. Lots of Blackcaps and at least 4 Garden Warblers. Nice to have them both singing together, enabling comparison of their songs. 2 LRP on the sand banks as well, plus 7 Goosander on the river.

Dipped on it this morning, but early evening seems to be a good time for it, so I may try again tomorrow evening.

So glad you managed to get a photo of it Adam. My brother and I saw it on Tuesday morning, posted on Carms rare birds. It was in the main river chanel, but the river was running so swiftly I didn't manage a photo for a record shot.

Poor thing. Have you ever seen it come out of the water? I wonder what happens if it tries to walk on land.

I remember Mike as he was in the 1979 photo when I was studying zoology in Lonodon and spent a couple of amazing weeks on Skomer as a voluntary warden. A wonderful experience.

Approach slowly, at high water the birds are very close, just the other side of the trees.

Thanks Mike. Access is easy, just head down Castell Ddu Road and when you get to the bridge, just park on the left by the gate, hop over the style and walk up toward the river - public footpath.

A very good morning's birding at Castell Ddu, below the M4 bridge at Pontardulais, just after high tide. Lesser Yellowlegs, Spotted Redshank, Ruff and a juvenile Peregrine that came along and spoilt the party.

Unfortunately, I don't. I've seen them often at Kenfig and Pembrey, but a car would be needed for these I guess.

Absolutely, butterfly numbers in South Wales seem to be exceptionally low these days, in fact insects in general. Very sad.
