I swear someone made a vinyl figure of That Thing and it was without doubt the most hideous, ugly, nightmare fuel toy I have ever seen. And I've seen the Wallace and Gromit Funkos.

what is it with horror (well, horror-lite Ghostbusters) films making kids scared of taking a bath? the trailer for Nightmare on Elm Street put TaylorNova off them for ages, too.

I was just thinking this shot had Shaun at the Winchester vibes and that confirms it.

To be fair, for such large animals, they moove through their sets bloody quick.

You are so on your own for that. I am not getting dragged into a fight between the Goddesses of Strategy and Love and the literal Queen of the Gods. That way lies curses and wars and probably the end of the world.

... OK, so I'm officially An Idiot. I thought these were promo pics from Pressure. In my defence, Fraser looks exactly like he looked as Ike in that, and Weitz looks remarkably like Ike's Secretary in that. I will admit, though, I thought the Secretary was Jenna Coleman for a bit.

Unless that crazy is dropping £26,100 of course... (It won't be me, I do not have that kind of cash).

And the award for the Most Not Like Anything I Expected It To Be Film of the Year goes to Hope. I mean, I went in knowing @blcagnew.bsky.social loves it and it's Korean, so that's not a lot to go on, but still. Every time you think you have that one down, it comes back with something else.

Shaun as Jack Skellington is sheer genius.

Of you need Christmas or birthday ideas this year, Primark's just got a load of Gilmore stuff in.

Honestly? Don't really care, as long as he goes and gets those bloody mood swings recognised as depression earlier than I did!

So it turns out that the author of that "Harry Potter is raised by Tony Stark and basically revolutionizes the entire wizarding world using his brain not magic" fanfic is a nutcase too. Whodathunkit?

Either there's some fighting talk there, or you haven't read A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking yet, because once you meet Bob, that number one spot is locked down tighter than Fort Knox.

Genuine question for the Americans seeing this that have watched Shaun the Sheep 3: do you know what a Womble is? (Just one for the many, many delights found in Beast of Missy Bottom).

Just had a thought: blowing the relay in Arrival. Presumably it's slaughtered just about everyone in about ten billion miles, yes, but it also means that whatever ending you choose, if there's any reapers or people there, they don't get synthesized or controlled or destroyed, because no relay. Huh

*in his very best Martin Sheen voice* you see, you took this money for an emergency fund, in a very real emergency situation, and you spent on things that aren't emergencies. Birthday parties. Flagrant violations of your own rules, which you used to browbeat your constituents, but ignored yourself.

So I've just seen that Coyote Vs ACME and K-Pop Demon Hunters are dropping in blu-ray the same day. Now that is an absolute doozy of a double-bill.

000

Daft Penguin @daftpenguin.bsky.social · 01/09/2026

And now I have Big Water from Land Before Time 5 in my head. Yes, Land Before Time had sequels. 14 of them. And yes, they are musicals.

Dickens' original idea was a pamphlet titled An Appeal to the People of England, on behalf of the Poor Man's Child. I very much doubt he thought Scrooge had a point. Simon Callow must be dreading this.

Can we go back to a time when multiplayer wasn't being forced into everything? I want to try and get the synthesis ending in ME3 without multiplayer or basically being able to after one third of the game the way you can in Legendary Edition.

Three guesses what cut Netflix got? (Also, having finally seen Coyote Vs ACME this weekend, yeah, buy disks, because you don't even know if the thing you want is ever going to be seen again!)

000

Daft Penguin @daftpenguin.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

three cuts exist of this movie, the original DVD theatrical (very limited) release, the extended blu-ray cut and the abysmal US festival cut that removes the dad's half of the final song, thereby removing the emotional impact of the song, and the entire bloody film!

100

Daft Penguin @daftpenguin.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

This is why I got Anna and the Apocalypse when it came out on blu-ray. Well, it's a fantastic movie in it's own right, and yes I have the DVD, but: blu-ray. Better quality. Bonus features - proper ones, not tat. Multiple cuts!

Daft Penguin @daftpenguin.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

Now, must remember to ask about Camp Miasma next week.

010

Daft Penguin @daftpenguin.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

I will freely admit that this week has been utter shite for me and that I needed this film more than anyone will ever know, but that doesn't change that this film was absolutely worth the wait and absolutely not worth binning off for a tax bill.

110

Daft Penguin @daftpenguin.bsky.social · 22/08/2026

Coyote Vs ACME. holy shit, that is a perfect film. I have not laughed so much watching a film in years. The title character has limited signs but doesn't need words, because you know exactly what he's saying. The mods and shoutouts are wonderful. and the crescendo moment will go down in history.

120

Daft Penguin @daftpenguin.bsky.social · 19/08/2026

Vigil aunties? I didn't think the BBC had that in mind when they cast Rosie Leslie and Suranne Jones on that one...

I see your Nicholson//Close/Portman And raise you Butler/Blanchett/Baruchel in How to Train Your Dragon 2/3. Butler, who is Scottish, had Baruchel, who is Canadian, with Blanchett. Who's English.

They'll just use the "unrated" cut as a promotion for the bluray.

010

Daft Penguin @daftpenguin.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

So filmmakers have some sort of time-based dimension manipulation powers, right? Or at least the good ones? Because no fucking way is End of Oak Street 99 minutes dead. There's way too much of it for 99, it's at least 109. I mean that in a good way. Although McGregor needs to wash that accent out.
