Watched Mirai. I think Hosoda's other movies made me think this would be more uh... grand? Reminded me of those Looney Tunes episodes with the boy that would just use his imagination to play with knights and stuff. Got the vision, but I feel like they could have pushed the concept further.

Finally got to Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning. A charitable read would be that it's like a spiritual successor to Hurricane Touchdown where it introduces a villain by means of shoehorning a new human character that's totally always been there. Uncharitably: dude, nobody likes that.

Love the TLC put into the packaging for each of these. The Penguindrum set literally cannot contain its bonus pamphlet. Really glad I got the special edition of Summer Ghost too-- toooons of physical bonuses on that one despite the short run time.

I anticipated that not having a smartphone would make me more reliant on other people — perhaps without Google Maps on hand, I’d have to ask an actual human for directions. And sure, that’s happened. But I think it’s more accurate to say that I’ve become more reliant on other people’s smartphones. Instead of ordering from the bar or printing out movie tickets ahead of time, I inevitably wind up having somebody else scan the QR code menu or pull up the e-tickets. Finally got to watching the Avatar Aang movie. Really enjoyed it. Core 4 dynamic felt solid without being pandering. Had a surprising amount of slower, quieter moments, which I think is part of the original's secret sauce. And it snuck in some characters from the comics, which was nice.
